Please post comments on individual modules in the specific module thread (linked above) - please keep this thread for info on new/updated extensions. Thanks!

Developers - you're welcome to look at the data in these modules as examples of how to develop your own modules. If you want to use the data, please be polite and get in touch with the developer who made the module in the first place and ask permission to use their data (send them a PM and post in the relevant extension thread). Some developers may no longer be active in the community, give the dev a couple of weeks to respond and if they don't respond you have done the polite thing and should be able to use their work (as long as the module doesn't specifically say you can't). If you do use other people's work please mention them in the extension - it's only fair to give credit where credit is due.

Module developers who don't want other people to use their work should say so in their module.

Only include work own work, OGL/Creative Commons material, or material that you have permission to use. Do not violate any copyright laws with the module data you post here. As a reminder - getting images from an internet search usually breaks copyright: just because information is freely available doesn't mean that it isn't covered by copyright. Thanks.

Older extensions - no longer compatible/needed

The following are extensions that are no longer needed - either because they are no longer compatible with the latest version of FG or the functionality they provide has been incorporated in FG. This list is provided here so interested users/developers can see examples of modules.

A little while ago this was a sticky thread, but then the main 5E moderator reorganised things and put a link to this module thread within the sticky "Community Produced Resources" thread. It's up to them if they want to sticky this thread. But, from my point of view, other system forums have extensions and module threads stickied, so it might be nice to keep that format over all system forums if possible.

I consolidated the stickies some while ago since they were growing too much. I'm disinclined to revert the changes but I have changed the name of the consolidation thread to better describe the content of the thread; if that makes any sense.

Don't put it in the Fantasy Grounds II directory - this is hanging around from the older version. Start FG and click the folder icon in the top right hand corner of the main startup screen. This will open a file explorer at the main FG app data directory. Open the \modules directory and paste your .mod file here. If there are no other .mod files in this directory then you need to run an update to download all of the standard system modules.

Yeah as Trenloe suggests I think that you are not in your actual data directory. Use the shortcuts from the splash screen to locate the folder.

Um..... So where are they? I would do it myself, however I can't work with par5e to save my arse. There are a ton of them out there, if anyone could help me out and send me the options, I would appreciate it. Or even a link to get them. The team does good, I just hate that in order to have access in FG you have to be a master coder.

Par5e is really not that hard. There is no coding involved. There are about a dozen tags to learn and there are plenty of examples about.
You also dont even have to par5e you can just type in the details of what you need straight into the character sheet.

The short of that thread is that UA conversions can not be posted on the forums here, and they can not be posted on the DMsG either.

In other words - UA articles are protected by copyright and can not legally be distributed even though the content has been distributed by WotC free of charge.

Wait, why not? I thought we decided it was legal. I imagine I'll get around to making them and putting them up on the DMsG now that I have xml templates for all the 5e assets.

I thought the upshot of that thread was that they could be released through DMs Guild? No artwork, but base data in a FG module. Or have you found any more info since?

I think you're missing the point of copyright here... For example, even the "free" D&D Basic Rules PDFs have clear copyright statements in them that forbid sharing/redistribution of the data from those PDFs. Stuff in the SRD is OK to share as that is covered by the OGL - which is the whole point of the subset of information available in the SRD. Other D&D material is covered by copyright, if they wanted people to freely distribute it they would include it in the SRD/release under the OGL. They release the material so you can use it in your own games, but they don't allow redistribution/changing of medium without permission. It allows Wizards to keep control of their own intellectual property.

Based on my (and at least one other checking recently) asking OBS, they say that Smiteworks has the license to convert WotC material for FG and that is not allowed in DMS Guild. For example, I asked about converting the pregenerated characters and got told I could not. So I have been doing a set that mirrors the official WoTC ones but no flavor text and I use the actual traits from the PHB and the links from the PHB within my character sheets, not the text from the official WoTC ones which are often paraphrased. That was accepted. From what I was told in email (to summarize), DMS Guild is really meant to be our own creation and Smiteworks has the license to convert WoTC materials. We can use it, and the OGL and the SRD gives us ability to use IP even outside of the DMS Guild.

This is really something that Doug or some other official Smiteworks representative needs to confirm. Also, please note, that the way I read what Smiteworks has said that using their trademarks (Fantasy Grounds) or their IP (the xml files, grouped into modules) without their permission is not allowed. They do allow it in DMS Guild (I assume they have an agreement with OBS) and they obviously accept things to be sold on their store. Otherwise they expect to be contacted and terms agreed upon.

Now, that does not mean that there are not things that could be done. For example, an SRD character class formatted so it can be just entered into par5e can be distributed as long as the OGL goes with it. Par5e turns the file into FG files, so you are not distributing Smiteworks IP. With all the character classes in the right format, tools like the new FG 5e parser and par5e can then be used to add the new UA archetypes easily.

For Unearthed Arcana:

We cannot share it in any format or in any way on the forums. If you want the PDF's please head over to the official D&D website and download it there.

If we decide to share it as...

1) The doc ~ Infringing the D&D(WoTC) IP copyrights
2) Markup of the text ~ Infringing the D&D(WoTC) IP copyrights
3) As a .MOD file in parts ~ Infringing the D&D(WoTC) IP copyrights & SmiteWorks IP (XML tags and automatons as applicable)
4) As a .MOD file in whole ~ Infringing the D&D(WoTC) IP copyrights & SmiteWorks IP (XML tags and automatons as applicable) & SmiteWorks/WoTC contract of allowing purely repackage renditions of official IP

For SRD data

1) The doc ~ Nothing since it already contains the OGL (Recommended that you just go to the official site and get it done)
2) Markup of the text ~ You must include the entire OGL in EACH SEPARATE publication that you would like to upload else ~ Infringing the D&D(WoTC) IP copyrights
3) As a .MOD in parts ~ Infringing SmiteWorks IP (XML tags and automatons as applicable) & You must include the entire OGL in EACH SEPARATE publication that you would like to upload else ~ Infringing the D&D(WoTC) IP copyrights
4) As a .MOD file in whole Infringing SmiteWorks IP (XML tags and automatons as applicable) & You must include the entire OGL in EACH SEPARATE publication that you would like to upload else ~ Infringing the D&D(WoTC) IP copyrights and SmiteWorks/WoTC contract of allowing purely repackage renditions of official IP

For Original Content not containing the SRD details and or official IP content

1) The doc ~ NA
2) Markup of the text ~ NA
3) As a .MOD file in parts ~ NA if and only if its free. If you want to people to pay to use your IP you must contact SmiteWorks.

Zeus has copyrights to Par5E (and so does SmiteWorks I assume).

Just skimming the list before work, but I don't see an entry for using official WotC IP under the DMsG license. You might want to read that, as it allows you to post and sell content with more than the SRD on (and only on) the DMsG. This is what allows the UA articles to be put up there, though I wouldn't rock the boat by putting a price on them.

Bound to them for what you put up in their store. Not bound forever for all things.

DMS Guild is the preferred route for selling original content that goes beyond the SRD, with or without FG conversion or files.

The part about .MOD files is not correct. They can be SOLD through the DMsG. (Doug has said as much to me in email and it's inherit in the ability to post FG content on the DMsG site. And, there are multiple modules including mine for sale there.)

To sell it through any other channel would require SMiteWorks agreement (I believe).

This isn't a problem for non-OGL non-SRD WotC IP that you could only sell on the DMsG anyway.

I could use a break from working on my extensions and modules. I'll whip up a module for UA and put it up on the DMsG; we'll see what happens. I've seen a lot of people asking about the Revised Ranger. I'll start there...

I have vastly updated my "Merchant Generator Mod", and just posted a new thread about the new "Content Generator 2017" which can be found below. Since the module name itself is a little nebulous, can you add a short tagline after the link and between "by JimSocks"?

Something to the tune of :
"Content Generator 2017" mod. Merchant/Tavern/Side Quest/NPC generators and more by JimSocks

would give people a good idea of what the mod provides.

The mod is actually called "Content Generator 2017" which is what will appear in folk's module window list when they download it, and "Merchants, Taverns, Side Quests, NPCs and more" was meant to be just a quick snippet saying what the module does, sort of like the quick comments following the links to the Unearthed Z1 - Zombie Curse and Into The Arowoth Woods modules.

(Silly I know, but I just noticed "Unearthed Arcana is missing a letter making it "Uneathed Arcana" or something similar)

What you didn't notice was that module was spelled modue. So that's two spelling errors in three words. Even for me that must be some kind of a record :)

Hey Trenloe or Zacchaeus or whoever updates the OP. I just noticed that my Fantasy Plant Compendium is listed twice (first on the list, and again 3rd from the end). Also, my other one, the Net Libram of Random Magical Effects, a rollable table of 10,000 wild magic surges/results is not listed. I have noticed that several of the ext./mods have (after clicking on link) been removed due to copyright issues or whatnot. Also I never know when the ext./mods need updated to a newer version. Is their anyway to add note of the date of newest versions to the link list and maybe a "pending" to the suspended ones. Just a thought to help manage my downloaded items and minimize unnecessary clicks. Maybe the mods/ext. could include a date on the name so if I view them on my computer I can check older ones to see if their is an update. Just a casual observation.Thanks.

I've removed the links to the two modules which had been removed. Sorry I should have deleted the links when the threads were amended. Modules shouldn't ever really need to be updated. If you are talking about extensions you need to follow the threads in those extensions to see when updates are made. If you click on the subscribe button on the threads you'll get notified when new posts are made to those threads. Generally the first post in each thread will contain the link to the download and the extension author will amend that link when a new version of the extension is submitted.

When FG gets updated to a new version is the time to check that your extensions are still working as intended. It may take a few days or weeks for any extension that breaks due to changes in FG code to get fixed. I and other moderators don't have unlimited time unfortunately to catch everything and update posts with all sorts of information. It is up to you the user to check the threads for updates.

If users choose to use community extensions and modules, the onus is on them to keep them updated when FG issues a new version update. The simplest method is to use the Thread Tools button at the top of each thread page, and subscribe to that thread. Do that for the extensions and modules you use the most so you don't have to go checking all the time.
