Hi, new player, just a couple questions!

So I just got my Pathfinder core player handbook, you know the 500 page monster, and I'm looking to get into some gaming. As someone pretty new to this scene I'm wondering how hard it is to find a game here with FG before I drop the 40 bucks on it. I've heard of play by post and roll20 too, would I be better off there as a new player? I'm just looking for basic info to get started in a game with a good GM. Any tips or answers to my questions is appreciated.

Check the Guild House and select the New Games sticky thread at the top. Generally it only takes a week or so to find a game that matches your time schedule and then it's usually fairly regular. Also check out FG-Con (https://fg-con.com) happening next weekend!

If there are still slots open, you could hop over to www.fg-con.com to look at some of the Pathfinder RPG games scheduled to run there. You can play for free during the con and see how you like it. It's also a good way to get introduced to other players and get invited into longer running games. Pathfinder is played regularly here.

You'll find plenty of Pathfinder games being played on Fantasy Grounds. You won't jump into a game today, but it usually takes 5-10 days to find a game (unless you have very specific/inflexible requirements). But, as will all role-playing, finding a group is just the first step - you'll have a specific kind of style you'll enjoy and you'll soon realise if they game you're playing and group you're in is to your liking, just like in real-life. So, it can take you a little while to find a group that plays in the times you're available and that you enjoy playing with - but stick with it, it's well worth the wait.

Keep an eye on the posts in the Guild House and reply to some/PM some GMs - it's rare for offers to drop into your lap, so visit the forums regularly and look out for GMs posting for players. Also let people know what times you're available (and your time zone) and what type of games you like - hack/slash, power gaming, role-playing, mixture, etc..

Thanks for all the info fellas!! I'll def look into this guild hall place. Also what is this FG-con that people say I should try, so the software is free then? Would it be considered a one-shot type thing?

FG Con is a community sponsored virtual convention that is once or twice a year. During that time, we temporarily upgrade all licenses to act like an Ultimate license. Because of this, all participants are able to join with only a Demo license. The games are all one-shot games suitable for a convention; however, you have an opportunity to play with DM's and other players who might invite you into more longer term campaigns.
