View Full Version : PC races in official 5E modules?

As many will have noticed, Fantasy Grounds now has official D&D 5E modules in the store! However, I see one glaring problem. I see plenty of features included in the modules, but I don't see races included in the description of any of them except for the few included in "Basic Rules". Are the Tieflings, Half-Orcs, etc. included in any of the modules, or are they inaccessible for some reason?

Races are available in the PHB Player Character Customisation Pack as well as the PHB, if you prefer not to purchase the entire PHB. So if you only want to play as a Tiefling Wizard, you can purchase the PHB Wizard Class Pack + PHB PC Customisation Pack.

Cool, thanks Zeus. Probably ought to be mentioned in the module descriptions, but I'm just glad they're there. :)

No problem. You can expect any rough edges with screenshots and detailed product information to be smoothed out over the course of the next few days as we digest feedback and get past the initial launch hurdles.

Happy 5E gaming everyone.

Does the unlimited license include future ruleset additions/publications? For example, if there's a new monster manual, would that content be included with the Unlimited License content?

Also, are the Unearthed Arcana options included?

The ultimate license allows you to host games for players who have the free license - see the license comparison here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/buyFG/#licensecomparison. It doesn't give you additional commercial products. You get the standard rulesets (framework to play a specific RPG) that everyone gets, see the "Included" section of "Supported Game Systems" here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Any commercial products available through the store you will need to purchase.

The different licenses dont vary in Content or even features. Just in how players are supported.
Buying Ultimate still needs you to buy the 5E material if you want to use that.

Oh, so the 5e ruleset included in all the licenses is... er... what? Just the Basic Rules minus the classes, races, and monsters? And... equipment and backgrounds?

So, at the moment, the only way to access "substantial" premade 5e content is to buy one of the many packages ranging from $3 to $50, is that right?

Are there any plans to offer a license for all digital 5e products? I know many who are itching for it. We miss an online repository of the rules.

And what does "Access Player Libraries" refer to, on that list of compared license features (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/buyFG/#licensecomparison)?

It's the whole framework that allows you to plat 5E - character sheets, NPC sheets, combat/initiative tracker, advantage/disadvantage rolling, critical hit processing, etc., etc., etc.. In theory, if you're happy putting info in by hand you don't need to buy any of the library/scenario modules.

Premade library content - classes, races, spells, monsters, scenario, etc., etc..

This is a question to direct at WotC.

It means that players can accces their own libraries when they are creating their own characters in the "Manage Characters" functionality or when editing characters in a locally produced campaign (for full or ultimate licenses).

Ferghis the entire 5e ruleset - the mechanics that make things work - is included free in Fantasy Grounds. Fantasy Grounds cannot give away IP that belongs to the Wizards though. There is an excellent - and I mean excellent Basic Parser by Valeros found here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?21835-D-amp-D-Basic-Rules-PDF-Parser may well be enough for you use without ever buying any official content. Everything else that you want to use you can add in yourself a you need it. Dont make every equipment list just make the items you need, dont make every monster just make the ones you need for each session etc.

Some of the terminology can be confusing. There isnt any easy way around that - its a confusing topic and until you are familiar with FG some of it may be a little confusing.
