AC Proficiency on PC's

As I'm working through my Character converter to import PC's into FG, their AC proficiency star is getting highlighted.

Since I'm not yet to the point of adding defenses, I thought it strange that it was getting set.

So, as a test, I went into FG and hit the green '+' symbol on the Character Selection dialog.

That character as well was given proficiency in AC.


So, my question: Why is that happening?

From the rules point this is the default state.
If you equip an armor you are not proficient with, you have to remove it and you then get automaticly disadvantage on attack rolls.
