I'm looking for a replacement headset that is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and has decent sound without picking up Darth Vader style breathing. I figured you folks would have some ideas on specific makes and models that have worked well for this in your games.

While I don't mind spending a bit more for something that is nice, I'm also not opposed to getting a good bang for the buck version either. Sound off.

i use these, I got them for listening to music https://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-High-Performance-Foldable-Headset-In-Line/dp/B005LBQ7BY but I use them for fanatsy grounds running Teamspeak of my phone which means if my PC or broadband goes down i can still talk to players.

I've got a Logitech H390 for VOIP at work. It's comfortable on the ears and has a pretty good mic.
At home I've got a Logitech H360, a behind-the-head style headset. It's really comfortable and I'm happy with the mic. Far more comfortable than it looks.
I'd recommend both/either of those.

I spend a LOT of time on conferences for work and do quite a bit of gaming. These are great - I have worn them for 6+ hours straight with no discomfort.

SteelSeries Siberia Headset (at Amazon) (https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Size-Gaming-Headset/dp/B003N636VI/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1427374858&sr=1-6)

I agree with Andraax ...my wife has these headphones and talk about comfortable to put on!!

I use Gamecom 780 (https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-GameCom-780-Headset-Surround/dp/B00B1KJK22) headphones. wife bought me them for my birthday becuase i play a lot of COD4 and man what a difference in sound quality. They are good headphones. These are over the ear type ...meaning they encase your ears not set on them in any way. Good for covering outside noises except if someone is speaking up.

Both are great choices.

I've used the Logitech G930s (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Gaming-Headset-Surround/dp/B003VANOFY/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1427408120&sr=1-1&keywords=logitech+g930) in the past and liked them a lot. I'm currently using the Astro A50s (https://www.amazon.com/ASTRO-Gaming-Wireless-Headset-Xbox-360/dp/B0091WIOJ2/ref=sr_1_7?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1427408097&sr=1-7) which is probably the most comfortable headset I've ever owned. I also like that the mixamp can be plugged into just about anything with an optical out, so I can use it with consoles or bluray if the wife and kid are sleeping.

I picked up one of these when Amazon had a special offer on them 2 weeks ago ($70) - I've been very impressed with them so far - comfortable, good range (if you're listening to music/playing games), excellent noise cancelling mic (it removes a lot of background noise), and one of my requirements: a red light on the end of the mic boom to tell you when you are *actually* on mute - saves those awkward moments when you're cursing and you think you're on mute...

They're great. I converted multiple friends to them, and a couple of my D&D players use them now. They go on sale pretty frequently too and that's a deal that's almost too good to pass up for the quality.

Can anyone recommend a headset that doesn't block out background noise? My house is pretty quiet, on the whole, but I need to be able to hear my son, in case he needs me white I'm playing FG.

Basically, you need a headset that has a mic that reduces background noise, but not one with noise cancelling headphones. The two logitech ones I suggested are fine for this, the H360 more than the H390. They cut out background noise on the mic but you can still hear what's going on around you. If the house is quiet while you're gaming, you won't be missing what is being said via the headphones.

I have a Logitech H800 (https://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/wireless-headset-h800)- it's a little more money, but the wireless feature is awesome (just remember to mute it if you take a bathroom break!). The earpieces are foam, not my favorite, but I have been very happy with them in general.

I use these, they are expensive (wait for a sale) but very comfortable. They allow air and noise to get inside the ear cups which are the go over the ear types: Sennheiser PC360

There are a number of gaming headsets like this. They are meant for long hours of gaming and allow air inside so your ears don't sweat. :p

I am a Turtle Beach headset fan, currently have the X-12 model, have another more expensive model they sell but find these are extremely comfortable and they have a real good rep, solid. Another cool feature is besides computers you can use them with game systems like Xbox, Check ebay, you can by them new for less. Good luck.
