Hello guys ;

I just prepared my 1st campaign on D&D5 and i had a problem yesterday.
When i try to use a weapon without proficiencies on it , FG3 throw 2 dice with disadvantage automaticly.

I read rules so many times and normally when you dont have proficiencies on a weapon , you just throw normal dice but you dont get your modifiers bonus on it.
How can i correct that , and why FG3 do that on each weapon ?
It work correctly with the same weapon if i click on "proficienceies stars" but the result is wrong cause i dont have it normally.

Thx you. Sorry about my bad English.

i believe you do need a proficiency to not suffer disadvantage

page 146 on Player Handbook

"Proficiency with a weapon allows you to add your
proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you
make with that weapon. If you make an attack roll using
a weapon with which you lack proficiency, you do not
add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll."

i clearly dont understand why FG3 give disadvantage ....

Your interpretation of the rules is correct - using a weapon that the character does not have proficiency with simply doesn't add the proficiency bonus.

Something else in your settings must be affecting the roll. Check that the character is proficient with the armor it is wearing - non-proficiency with the armour worn gives disadvantage to attack rolls.

Ranged weapons at long range should also give disadvantage.

Ahhh - thanks El Condoro - thats the one - I remember Doug or JPG posting about it but I got it back to front... it most likely is the armour proficiency...

Ranged weapons at long range should also give disadvantage.

That's true but FG3 won't pick up long range - you have to manually 'tell' it that the attack is with disadvantage.

I check and try again and it didn't work. I have profienceies on armor.
I try at all range 50 feet 10 feet 500 feet etc ....

I also have same problem with melee weapon. if i disactive proficiencies the Disadvantage automaticly pop on roll dice.

I think there is a problem on the Actions sheet. I am able to reproduce your problem.

If a character uses a weapon with which it is proficient it rolls as normal. If I then check off the proficiency star and roll, it rolls with disadvantage. It should roll one die without the proficiency bonus.

Exactly , and for me it's not correct.
Maybe there is a mistake on ruleset with that.

Only way i find actually is to activate advantage before make the roll and it disable the disadvantage , but if someone find a better way let me know plz

I believe it is a ruleset issue and have logged it in the Laboratory forum.

A moderator can change position of this thread or i must create a new one on laboratory ?

You don't really have to do anything - as long as the developers know about the issue they can fix it and usually do so quickly. Here is the link to the post I made on the Laboratory forum.
