View Full Version : PFS #3-11 The Quest for Perfection, Part II: On Hostile Waters, (sometime) December

cmdisc
December 1st, 2014, 14:09
This is the 2nd part of a 3-part series. As far as possible I would like to continue with the same group that played through Part I and at the same 4-5 subtier. Those players (characters) are:

Blackfoot (Garbunkle)
Victor (Belteshazzar)
Xazil (Janek)
HoloGnome (Zan)
Farnaby (Meredith)
kwarner1986 (Rebecca)

If you are playing your character in other games, please be careful not to inadvertently level them out of these Scenarios. Characters should have 13XP at most when playing Part II and 14XP at most for Part III. If this ends up being a problem, we will need to shuffle players/characters around as necessary, including the option of using pre-gens.

Calendar is here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/calendar/index.xcp?id=1300

The last bit of chatter I saw had a few people saying Dec 19th was good for them...probably an 8pm UTC start time. Let's see if this or another time works for everyone.

Zan is currently at 11 and will be at 12 this saturday. After that, he can go on 1 more adventure and still be in range prior to starting QfP 2-3, but no more than that, or he could even switch to SLOW for that level, but not quite ready to extend yet. And, it seems unlikely for Devil You Know Part 4 to come before that. So, he should be OK as long as Part 3 follows soon after and Part 4 of DYK can delay until after that happens. Alternately, if Zan did slow, maybe we could talk hawkwind into another 3XP Emerald Spire level.

December 19th is good for me.

Here is my updated character sheet.

19th is good for me, but if Xazil is okay with bringing his druid. I'll bring my hard hitting Rogue to the party.

Victor
December 2nd, 2014, 02:47
so far the 19th works fine for me. Most days and times are fine so long as I know in advance. I don't work. :)

HoloGnome
December 2nd, 2014, 03:27
I can do the 19th - voted.

cmdisc

Looks like everyone is on board. The game is scheduled to run for me from 9pm to 2am and I have a full day the following day, so my intent is to end on time if not early. Hopefully no more 40ft rock walls...

:p

Victor
December 2nd, 2014, 07:30
The walls we can handle.. NOW. Bring it on!
What's that? No one can swim or breathe water? hmmm we are stuck again..

xazil

Or you could go "Hey we are being given a mission to go up river in a boat, maybe we prepare for that."

cmdisc

That IS an idea...

Farnaby
December 4th, 2014, 18:49
So having some gps lying around, what would be good for a river trip?

HoloGnome
December 4th, 2014, 18:59
Gambler's Outfit.

cmdisc
December 4th, 2014, 19:57
Swim lessons?

Blackfoot
December 4th, 2014, 20:22
Suntan lotion and bug repellant.

Farnaby
December 4th, 2014, 20:57
aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhh

kwarner1986
December 4th, 2014, 21:49
Diana repellant. haha

But realistically, anything to deal with swarms. Alchemist Fire, acid flask.

Having an anti-poison and anti-plague are good choices as well.

If your definition of "some" is 450gp then how do you past the https://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/magicItems/wondrousItems.html#feather-token Swan Boat token?

Blackfoot
December 5th, 2014, 00:40
Aren't tokens one use items?
The Besmara Tricorne is cooler... of course I'm not sure how much that one is.

xazil
December 5th, 2014, 00:47
Yeah, its 2600gp, not much but you could still buy 5 feather boats instead. Of course the other part is you need to have "The Pirate Queen" as your patron deity too.....

But it is a cool hat :)

Farnaby

I'd love to, but as it's a magic item I'd have to spend fame on that wouldn't I?

Blackfoot
December 5th, 2014, 21:55
No.. you don't spend your fame... but you do need to meet the minimum for the cost of the item.
You can buy items with prestige (which you spend) fame is yours forever.

xazil
December 5th, 2014, 23:48
Once you reach 5 fame you can buy any PFS legal item worth 500gp or under for its cost. The break points for further limits are in the Pre-Chronicle or the official source which is the season 6 PFS PDF.

Heh, so many TLAs :)

Victor
December 6th, 2014, 01:41
Just to clarify for any that need it.
Fame = total prestge gained over the life of your character. so it doesn't go away.
It's used as a yardstick to see if you have advanced enough to buy the good stuff.

You have your channels crossed there...

cmdisc
December 14th, 2014, 15:25
Ok, back from a weekend vacation to hike the Bastogne trail (lots of WWII reenactors to make it an incredible time).

We are looking at this Friday, the 19th, for our session of Part II. I have 8pm UTC down as the start time. Is there any preference between 8pm and an hour earlier at 7pm?

If your character has changed and you haven't reposted it here, I will need an updated XML for them.
If you have played your character in another scenario since Part I, I will need their last Chronicle.

Farnaby
December 14th, 2014, 15:53
No preference here, 7 or 8 is fine.
Meredith played again inbetween so I'll send you the new xml and chronicle soon.

Blackfoot
December 14th, 2014, 18:06
7 is nominally better for me... I think I already sent you my updated character.. or did it on the server or.. well I can send it if you need it.. it's only updating with my purchases from last game.

EDIT: Right.. I did post him down below a bit... post #3

cmdisc
December 14th, 2014, 21:20
Yes, I have Garbunkle. He's all set.

Farnaby
December 15th, 2014, 01:49
Here's the xml, pre-chronicle sheet, token and link to the inventory sheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yRu8Ljw0l6_Glx1YwWjeRXklCYK3hH9FhVLU7yKdWTk/edit?usp=sharing).

See you lot on friday night.

xazil
December 15th, 2014, 03:05
Janek should follow in the next day or two when I get his chronicle and XML sorted from this weekends not so smooth investigation into the problems of Cassomir. But at least I hear another band of Pathfinders are about to go and continue. ;)

cmdisc
December 15th, 2014, 18:52
Xazil, any vote as to the 7pm or 8pm UTC start time? I know both are pretty early for you.

xazil
December 15th, 2014, 21:53
I'm pretty easy on either although earlier than 7pm UTC is where I start baulking. :)

cmdisc
December 16th, 2014, 10:30
I know 8pm UTC is up on the calendar, but if everyone is ok with it, we can make it 7pm. I'll put that time up on the calendar as an alternate and you can vote yes/no on it. If we don't get 100% positive, then we will stick with 8pm as a start time.

Meanwhile, I've been asked a few times about Part 3. If everyone is ok with it, I'd like to look at the weekend of Jan 2-4...probably around the same start time of 7-8pm UTC.

xazil
December 16th, 2014, 11:06
Jan 2 is likely to be the best time for me if that works out ok. Jan 3 is likely to have a game (although not totally set in stone) and Jan 4 is my Monday (work).

Victor
December 16th, 2014, 11:24
Jan 2nd works for me too as I am in the same possible Jan 3 game with Xazil.
I am going to slow track Belteshazzar for level 5 so that I can get into more games between then and now. Hey Holo, want to do the same and keep pace with me?

HoloGnome
December 16th, 2014, 18:26
Should be fine.

Farnaby
December 16th, 2014, 21:03
7/8 is good for me as well.

kwarner1986
December 16th, 2014, 22:52
I hate to be the buzzkillington, but I might not be ready by 7, but I should be good to go by 8.

xazil
December 16th, 2014, 23:34
I hate to be the buzzkillington, but I might not be ready by 7, but I should be good to go by 8.
That might be pretty literal as I have a Christmas party the night before and kinda expect to wake up still buzzed....

cmdisc
December 16th, 2014, 23:34
Fair enough then. 8pm UTC it is. :)

kwarner1986
December 17th, 2014, 02:08
I'm going to bring Diana to this fight. Rebecca is still recovering from a building being dropped on her.

xazil
December 17th, 2014, 07:33
Here you go for Janeks files.

cmdisc
December 17th, 2014, 15:13
ATM with Rebecca's absence, the party is down a dedicated healer or anyone who can use a CLW wand. The Magus can use an Infernal Healing wand (if any), plus anyone can use potions. Barring any flukes or odd dice rolls, this scenario is probably a touch easier than the last one. If you are ok with this, we're good to go once Victor and HoloGnome get me their info. Otherwise feel free to discuss options.

Blackfoot
December 17th, 2014, 16:30
Garbunkle can use a pair of handaxes.. that's like a wand of somethin' or other.. but it stops the hurtin' on us rather than repairing it.

xazil
December 17th, 2014, 17:53
Janek is now carrying some cleric scrolls as well that he has a decent shot at using.

Blackfoot
December 17th, 2014, 18:37
Wait.. so our group makeup is...
Blackfoot - Garbunkle - 5 - Gnome Two-Weapon Fighter
kwarner1986 - Diana ??? some sorta rogue thing ???
xazil - Janek Trap-Tinker - 5 - Sorcerer/CLW Wander/Cleric Scrolls inc.
Victor - Belteshazzar - 5 - Elf Magus
HoloGnome Zan Greenshadow - 4 - Elf Rogue (Rake)/Wizard (Enchanter)
Farnaby - Meredith - 3 - Vudran Ninja

Is this the all rogue party? Should I switch to Grum? Garbunkle can be pretty stealthy though... so maybe I'm ok...

Look out traps and locks.. we got this!

xazil
December 17th, 2014, 18:50
Unfortunately while Janek is good at spotting and removing traps his stealth is pretty bad as he carries enough contingency items to be medium encumbrance despite no armour etc. He can vanish but you'll hear him coming. :D

Blackfoot
December 17th, 2014, 18:53
Bah. Garbunkle moves like a ghost in a breastplate.. dwarves.. big blunderers.. they've got no skills. I'm sure I could teach you a few things if you wanted to take the time to listen.

xazil
December 17th, 2014, 18:57
Funny you offer that... Next level Janek will become a Pathfinder Field Agent and they do get stealth training. :D

Victor
December 17th, 2014, 21:52
A halfling rolls his eyes as the Dwarves try to move along "stealthily".

Victor
December 18th, 2014, 07:05
Belty's stuff, I have a Pre-Chronicle with a purchase on it included.
I am slow tracking him through Level 5.

cmdisc
December 18th, 2014, 18:45
Ok, so far I have Belt and Zan slow tracking for this level. Anyone else? Otherwise I'll start pre-prepping some of the Chronicles.

Blackfoot
December 18th, 2014, 18:46
Normal for me.

cmdisc
December 18th, 2014, 19:24
Yeah, I'm guessing everyone else is normal as they are not in danger of leveling out of the Tier. I just wanted to make sure no one else was jumping on that wagon. :)

Minor issue. Need to reboot the system. Will post again when fixed.

I will check my calendar to see about Jan 2nd or 3rd regarding Part III (or 9th or 10th if necessary). If anything is particularly good or bad, let me know here and we can schedule around whatever.

I have pre-chronicles from Belt and Meredith. If anything needs changing from those, please resend them. I'm headed to bed and will get to the Chronicles in the morning.

Nice rolling, guys. :)

HoloGnome
December 20th, 2014, 02:41
That was fun! I'll make sure you have mine soon.

Farnaby
December 20th, 2014, 10:06
That was a blast, the bad guys had no chance at all. :D

cmdisc
December 20th, 2014, 10:20
Yeah, the encounters were designed in such a way to be a challenge for 4 PCs as opposed to your 6. Everything really had to come to you and there was no way to surprise the party. In fact several of those gave the party ample time to prep right before the fight. Plus it helped that a number of you were 5th level, so the APL was quite heavily weighted on the high end.

We'll see how Part III goes. ;)

cmdisc
December 20th, 2014, 10:21
Edit: Comments seem to have posted twice. Hmm..

cmdisc
December 20th, 2014, 10:55
Here are Belteshazzar's and Zan's Chronicles. Look them over and let me know if I need to change anything. I'll work on the rest once I get the fillables.

cmdisc
December 20th, 2014, 12:11
Janek's. Again let me know if anything needs changing.

HoloGnome
December 20th, 2014, 13:15
Should Zan's sale items be 6.1 or 3.05gp? I thought it was 1/2 value.

cmdisc
December 20th, 2014, 13:37
Doh! Forgot to reduce that when I transferred it over. Fixed in the previous post.

December 20th, 2014, 14:31
No rush on mine, since I don't need her until the 29th or 30th.

Attached is my Inventory Sheet and Pre-Chronicle. I've had a lot of buying and selling on this one, but on the Brightside of life, I now have a 0 to my Will Saves now.

NP. Just had to add the final touches and sign it. Had a moment free.

December 20th, 2014, 15:48
Garbunkle's Purchases are listed on his notes tab:
Darkwood Composite Longbow: 415 gp
Arrows x20: 1gp

That's it... everything else is the same as off the last chronicle you did.

cmdisc
December 20th, 2014, 17:31
Will get to Garbunkle's and Meredith's soon. Off to see Hobbit pt III. :D

cmdisc
December 20th, 2014, 20:57
Last 2 chronicles. If anyone needs anything changed, let me know.

FYI, the movie was totally worth it! :)
