View Full Version : Setting up 4d6 dropping lowest

Hello everyone!

I just purchased the Ultimate License this morning and have been working on creating my story. I remember seeing this video somewhere that showed how to setup character skill rolls, but now that I am out of the Demo mode I cannot recall it.

I let me players do a 4d6 re-roll 1's and drop the lowest for the initial six character stats. How can I set this up so that it creates a smooth experience for my players?

Personally I would create characters in PCGen and then import into FG. To many chances of having math errors or forgetting a rule etc.

If you use manage characters to do some of this in the d20 based rulesets. But, it won't re-roll 1's.

For example, go into Manage Characters for the 5E ruleset:

Set the "rules" you're using at the bottom of the window. Right-click on the d6 and select the "4" option and drop the 4 dice in the chat window - it will remove the lowest and total the rest.

But, as Manage Characters is really a player-in-isolation function, just get your players together for a character generation session - logging into you as the GM and they can roll the dice 4 at a time, re-roll 1's and you can all laugh at the low scores some people will come up with.

Thanks so much for both of these replies, I knew that I saw that screen before and just needed the nudge in the right direction on where to find it again.

We also downloaded and used the PCGen application, which we like a lot. One question with that though, how to you save the information from that to a format that FG will import? We tried to do that and received and error saying that the file format was incorrect.

I know this post is several months old, but does this functionality, the Manage Characters interface, exist in the current 5E implementation? And if so, where does it live?

So was a solution ever found were you can roll 4d6 and reroll 1s? I know I can roll over skype or possibly use something like herolabs, but my question is can I use FG to roll 4d6 and reroll 1s and take 3 highest?

Yes there is. It's quite similar to te real world, really...
just pick up the d6 and right click three times, then throw the four dice over the chat window. FG will randomly choose the values. If it shows one or more values on 1, repeat the process, bit right clicking the appropriate number of times to give the number of dice equal to the number of 1s. Repeat as necessary unitil no 1s appear. Then add add up the highest 3 values.

I don't think it rerolls 1s, though it should be possible to extend it so it did...

Edit: ok maybe it does!
