Maybe a bit obvious and apologies for asking but have you checked your SPAM and Junk folders?

The last couple of days it has been taking a number of hours to get email updates from FG forum threads - I've seen 20 hour delays over the last day or so. This might be the issue - the FG emails are being delayed somewhere in the process.

I never get them Trenloe, even after days.. Zeus this is also the first thing I checked ;), but thanks for the advice, it's the most obvious ones one often fail to see :). Funny thing is that after I checked my spamfolder I apperently need to have my private parts enlarged and apparently I need lots of pills too... I had no idea...

Are you using a hotmail.com address? These seem to block the FG forum emails - I've had to send them to a gmail account that forwards to my hotmail account - but if you have an @hotmail.com email address for your FG notifications it will fail.

Checked that too Trenloe, as indeed I have a setup like you, Just the other way around, my hotmails get forwarded to my gmail. But it is my gmail I have registered here and I actually also checked my hotmail and hotmails spam folder (just in case) when I was investigating :). I used to get notifications though. But it's been a while since I used the forum, so...

Lol. Oh thank god I'm not alone ... was beginning to think someone new something I didn't he he. If you do take the pills, remember to drink plenty of water, you don't want to end up with a long stiff neck ...

Doug manages the website, problem is he's manning the stands at GenCon this week. I'll be sure to mention it to him though and I'm sure he'll look into it as soon as he can once he's back.

Issues with Hotmail are… well not normal, but does happen. It's got better these past months, but for years Hotmail was the nightmare of server admins. To the point of, if you have a Hotmail address, well deal with it yourself :)

As for the rest, this doesn't happen to everyone, but for those who have issues it's being a long long time. It's probably either that the mail get nulled or junked along the way (meaning the admin will need to check spam score on reputable websites for fantasygrounds.com, dkim signatures and the whole shebang), or that the postfix server had too many beers and send email for some but not all.

Or it could be than 1&1 does strange things on their network, they shouldn't but hey, it's 1&1 :)

In any cases, if that helps, here's one that got through (I usually get FG forum emails):

LOL. Tried that stiff neck thing a couple of time, nasty thing, not some pills fault though ;). No hurries... I hope everyone have a good time at GenCon, and they catch lots and lots of new FG users. It is a bit to long a trip for me, living in Denmark. Could be interesting though :).

Yeah Hotmail have always had a hard time. Also one of the reasons I switched to Gmail, for some reason that works better I think. That could just be me ;).

It seems I also have huge delays in email notifications nowadays. I believe it was fine a month ago, but for example I just (August 16 11:53) got the email notification for this post (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?21807-Alt-Gr-letter-shortcuts&p=184172&viewfull=1#post184172) that was written August 13th 4:09.

And its headers seems fine:

I'm not a specialist of emails, but if I had to guess it would seems the issue is either inside postfix, or inside the php class_mail. A delay in a relay or in the network would have the mail being sent 3 days ago, not right now.

Notifications are coming through very, very delayed at the moment - I've just received a notification for a post 4 days old. Except delays of a number of days until this is fixed.

I wonder if the recent breach of 512,000 concurrent routes on 'older' core Internet switches could be impacting the situation. You may have read reports that we can expect intermittent slow down of the Internet whilst older routers around the world struggle to cope with today's concurrent Internet routing demand. Cisco are slowly swapping out core routers to help ease the problem.

I was experiencing this issue as well, but I was going to wait to bug the 'powers that be' about it until after GenCon.
Emails are coming slowly if at all... it's not that big a deal .. I'm sure we can survive for a few more days without instant notifications. :)

Yeah. I just got my first one in a long time. 4 days to late. So I DO get them like everyone else, but delayed heavily, like everyone else.

Hey guys, unfortunately there is only so much I can do to test this on my end. The emails appear to be getting generated successfully from the server and sent out immediately. There is no delay from here that I can tell. A diagnostics email sent from the forum admin control panel arrived to me instantly at my gmail business account. If you can email to [email protected] with the email address you would like me to test against, I can try sending a diagnostic message to you from the forum.

Also note that while fantasygrounds.com's email is a hosted email platform, the forum emails originate from "onlinehome-server.com" even though the email lists it as being from [email protected]. I'm thinking this may be getting caught in some people's spam detection software.

I've checked on blacklist servers and I'm not seeing us listed on any of those as a blacklist.
https://whatismyipaddress.com/blacklist-check

If you have the ability to whitelist a domain, you can try adding both fantasygrounds.com and u1704136.onlinehome-server.com to the list of always allowed domains.

Yeah it looks like notification emails from FG were being sent to my spam folders. Why did it start doing this all of sudden? I don't know. Hopefully, tagging it as "non-spam" will fix this. Thanks Doug.

An email I received last night that was for a thread updated on August 16th. The details of the email show that the u17043136.onlinehome-server.com SMTP server received the initial send email request (from class_mail.php) last night - everything after that came through within a matter of seconds.

This appears to be an issue with the class_mail.php script from the forums being delayed for some reason?

Aha. Thanks guys. I did a search on vBulletin emails delayed and found that there are a few settings which likely control this. Basically, there is a setting to "Use Cron based Sending" and a set batch size with the mailqueue to limit the server burden. I'm guessing the amount of emails needing to be sent exceeded the amount by which they could be sent based on the set batch size setting. I've tried turning this off for now. That means that until the outbound emails catch up, the site will be a little slower on the forum requests since these now trigger batches.

Well, to further muddy the waters when we were trying to track it down, I read that certain types of emails from the forum are not queued up in this way. Those are for forgotten passwords, new account registrations and diagnostic emails. Hopefully everyone will get caught up over night and then we can see if it has any noticeable effect on the server speed with it set as it is now.

Seems to be OK now, I'll confirm when I get new notifications.

As for the cron, in theory it shouldn't be a huge slow down. Instead of sending a bunch of email every n minutes, sending them as they are needed.

If your server can't handle it, there's always the possibility of using SMTP, sending those emails to another service (like hosted email, if 1&1 does this correctly) on another machine. But check your resources usages, I very much doubt postfix eat that much server resources.
