FG Con 5 - Dates Announced

FG Con 5 will run from Friday evening 17th October AEST until Midnight Sunday 19th October PDT.

The first FG Con was held almost exactly 2 years ago running from 20th-22nd July 2012. FG Con has come a long way since then. The first FG Con was organised completely on the Fantasy Grounds Forums and Game Calendar along with spreadsheets managed by Blackfoot and wbcreighton to coordinate games across timezones.

While lots has changed many things remain the same!

• FG Con is a 100% online Convention using Fantasy Grounds

• FG Con is community organised and run

• Totally Free for Players

• Full and Steam licenses get upgraded to Ultimate for FG Con

• Community TeamSpeak server for all games (thanks Mellock)

• Game choice and timing is completely up to GMs (PG/13)

• Players and GMs from all over the world

• Organised gaming from the Pathfinder Society (with Paizo support) and Savage Worlds from the Society of Extraordinary Gamers

• Wide spectrum of games available

FG Con 5 delivers a fun and dynamic convention-like gaming experience for Players and GMs to play your favourite RPGs and meet other like minded gamers. Participants can enjoy a wide variety of games and genres.

FG Con 5 will be managed and run from the FG Con Website (https://www.fg-con.com/). We are planning to break 50 sessions at FG Con 5 and showcase a wider variety of games. We are talking to several publishers about providing some small prizes and incentives.

• 23/08/2014 Player registration opens

• 16/10/2014 Player registration closes for most sessions

I want to give a shout-out to the organizers of FG Con. All of us who benefit, be sure to send them virtual milk and cookies. It doesn't happen on it's own: a buddy of mine refers to organizing responsibilities as "pivot boy" duties... Be sure to thank them by showing up!

Is it possibly to run non English language games on FG-Con?

August 3rd, 2014, 22:27
Yes of course so long as you clearly mark the language.

It will if someone organises it. What, specifically, were you thinking of?

Unholy_Wind
August 22nd, 2014, 18:47
Well, specifically the Final Rounds for an extended Tournament play game I am designing.

I was willing to be an organizer over on R20, but the Devs shut me down on the idea very quickly. Tourneys are against R20 ToS, apparently...

Achtung Cthulhu
The Three Kings – by Sarah Newton

It’s summer, 1939, and a shadow is falling over Europe. Czechoslovakia has been invaded by the Third Reich, and the country dismembered. In its place, the Nazis have declared a “Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia”, centred on the former capital of Prague. And yet, amidst the restive populace in the surrounding countryside, resistance is growing - led by a triumvirate of patriots known only as the “Three Kings”.

Your job is to parachute into the area and make contact with the “Three Kings” as well as with a Czech priest who has information about atrocities committed by the Third Reich - information which will provide priceless propaganda if war does break out.

No experience with Fantasy Grounds, Savage Worlds or Achtung! Cthulhu necessary.

BOOM!

We've hit 50 events (52 at time of writing) - this is the first time FG Con has hit this milestone and it's AWESOME!

Now, we need to make sure as much of these events go ahead as possible - and this needs players signing up. Get the word out folks!

Fizban is running a triple header - Hard Boiled at FG Con
This will be 3 separate sessions running Friday/Saturday/Sunday and you can play any or all sessions. The sessions will flow on so more fun the more sessions you make. Last FG Con Fizban ran a DnD 3.5E Samurai inspired triple header.

https://www.fg-con.com/events/hard-boiled/
https://www.fg-con.com/events/hard-boiled-2/
https://www.fg-con.com/events/hard-boiled-3/

It’s late in the night, hour of the wolf. The rain beats down hard onto the city streets, almost drowning out the sound of distant gunshots. On the edge of the slums stands an old apartment block that was converted into a low budget hotel. It’s former owner’s dreams of riches long dead as the decrepit rooms are now filled with half dead junkies languishing in their fleeting euphoria. A room on the second floor has a light still on, flickering away in defiance of the darkness from outside that threatens to consume its meagre warmth. The room’s current occupants sneer from behind their ghoulish masks, wishing for darkness to hide the faeces stained floor. A creature of filth, barely recognisable as a man, cowers before them. He coughs out from between broken, rotting teeth.

“Oi ‘aven seen nuffink!” Oi sweaz! Dawnt tell nawones me!”

One of the masked men draws a pistol from beneath his coat and almost teasingly slow begins to point it at the serf’s head.

“You say that you will not tell a soul? Well I believe you.”

The ragged man closes his eyes in fearful anticipation.

With a start Kincade awakes. After realising that he is still at his desk he slouches back in his chair. Kincade reaches for the half empty glass of stale whiskey left from the previous night. He looks warily at a case file in front of him. He remembers some woman walking into his office once he was well into his bottle, she hastily asked for his help and offered payment. He couldn’t remember what his response was but she left him a file. Kincade tentatively gathers the papers from within this mysterious parcel, and begins to read them. After a few brief minutes he places the files down and reaches for his rolodex, whispering wearily to himself,

“I’m going to need help with this one.”.

A hard boiled genre game set in the dystopian city of Eden.

In the slums district of Eden, children have been going missing for several months. The police are powerless to do anything as usual, and the Civil Servants are unwilling to involve themselves. The people have barely noticed the kidnappings as nobody really cares about serfs. However there is a woman who runs a charity school in the district to try an help these children build a future. This woman has approached your agency seeking help, and she is paying handsomely.

This game will be run using BRP

Characters will be provided

This game will be an even mix of combat and role-playing, with possibly more focus on the RP.

This game is set to run for 3 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) with a session for each day, listed as different events.

Up to 6 player slots available.

There is no requirement to attend all 3 sessions.

Ruleset: Basic Role Playing
GM: Fizban

I was toying with the idea of a PF character creation session for new players. I know making characters is something I struggled with when I started... so many options... fitting the parts together... and as most of the games seem to use pregens at the con, it's not something people might get to try otherwise. Can I just go ahead and add it to the events list or do I need to speak to someone first as it's not a "normal" event? Thanks :)

all events are moderated in that they have to be approved before they become public.
i have no problem with that session at all.
you should bounce it off Trenloe though as he co-ordinates all the PFS stuff and he might like to work with you on the timing of the session.
Trenloe is a few hours behind you but should respond within 24hrs.

I posted to run a Pathfinder GM Training session. Definitely not the most knowledgeable on the topic but for beginners ...I should get them to the point of running a decent start-up campaign.

What I could use is a few mentors they can contact after the session. Always something gets forgotten or not recalled and someone wants to ask a veteran. I'm not the greatest to get back to my FG website for messages in a timely fashion (usually only check it once a day to once every 2 days). If your open to contact afterwards send me a FG message(mail).

Congratulations on the new record for events.

Just submitted a DCC RPG game for the OSR fans:

The Jeweler That Dealt in Stardust
Level 3, by Harley Stroh

A jeweler/fence (i.e., stolen goods dealer) has gone missing, and his house of jewels now sits empty. Surely a cunning thief could make his way inside to steal the unguarded riches?

Date: Saturday, October 18
Time: 8:00 pm-12:00 am EDT (UTC -4)

Inspired by Robert E. Howard's Tower of the Elephant from the Conan series and Fritz Leiber's Lean Times in Lankhmar, this heist adventure offers a healthy dose of Lovecraftian horror. The hand-drawn map alone is worth showing up for! To quote the author, this module "can be played by a party composed entirely of thieves. However if things go awry - as they should in any good heist - the respective skills of the wizard, warrior, and cleric will be in high demand."

Game style will be theatre of the mind, with maps and player tokens used as a general reference. Character sheets are probably best maintained off the virtual table, as a pdf file or printed/handwritten - it's a one-shot after all!

There is now a Star Wars: Edge of the Empire event at FG Con V: https://www.fg-con.com/events/finished-star-wars-edge-of-the-empire-fringers-ii/

This is a very loose follow on to the Fringers adventure at FG Con IV. A session video of that scenario (played a second time outside of FG Con) can be found here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20055-Star-Wars-Edge-of-the-Empire-FG-3-0&p=175242&viewfull=1#post175242

Will there be another Generic 'Getting Started - GM Session' running? or is there a list in case anyone drops out?

I also wanted to register for the 'Getting started Pathfinder GM training' event but it says you need to complete the Generic 'Getting Started - GM Session' first. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest you comment directly on the individual session entry on the FG Con website - open the page for the event, scroll down and there is a section under the event description to make a comment (you need to be logged in). Then the GM for the event will get a message and can reply.

At FG Con the sessions that get offered up completely up to the GMs that are running them.
Perhaps you might like to run a 5E session at the next FG Con? We love having new GMs on board.
FG Con is also a great place to try something different - play a ruleset or a genre you have never tried before. There are lots of great games still available but time is running out to get your bookings in.

Woohoo! FG Con 7 is open for player registrations. 25 sessions posted already and now taking bookings!
I have 16 more GM sessions in the works and I know there are others coming too.

GMs dont be shy - run a game and share your RPG talents with players new and old!
Players - spread the word - invite a friend - try something different!

If you are considering running a game but are hesitant for any reason drop me a PM and we'll see if we can help you out.

There is a loose Fright Night! theme but its completely open to the GMs what they run. Im running a some Investigative Cthulhu and some old school Fantasy Hack and Slash!

If you want some signature banners Ive made up a few here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/h73p3embzqnnbow/fg-con-7-signatures.txt?dl=0
