The Galactic Empire has been the light of order in the galaxy for the past 18 years. Yet, a darkness mars the order created since the betrayal of the Jedi and the fall of the Republic.

The so-called Alliance to Restore the Republic has declared rebellion against the lawful rule of the Emperor. Since the declaration, a few bands of rabble have caused trouble in a few Rim locations. Now however, the very future of the Empire has been threatened. Following a strike on the Imperial relay station on Toprawa, plans for the new naval battle station have fallen in to Rebel hands.

The Empire needs all its loyal supporters in the fight against the chaos and anarchy that is the goal of the Rebellion.

I'm thinking of running a short Star Wars Imperial campaign. The campaign will explore the theme of treading the line between duty and conscience.

Game to start early September 2014. I want to get characters done before the end of July so that I can think up a campaign that will fit the group. The campaign will run on Sunday evenings (8pm to 11pm UK time) from September to December. Character building sessions to run for the next couple of weeks (Sunday evenings - 13th & 20th July).

Welcome Daenight. I may have to delay character building until my Age of Rebellion (AoR) corebook comes through. It's not arrived as hoped for this weekend, and I was going to use a lot of the classes in that game for the Imperials.
The Free-RPG Day Adventure for Edge of Empire (https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/StarWarsRPG/edge-of-the-empire/adventures/Under%20a%20Black%20Sun%20LoRes.pdf) gives a run-down of the system. This should be enough information to get a player started. The Star Wars: EotE ruleset handles the special dice in Fantasy Grounds.

The game will be centred on the Victory II class Star Destroyer Vanguard. The characters will be part of the crew, or assigned to the ship as a special detachment (depending on character choices). Adventures will be missions for the Empire, instead of the normal Rebel strike group.

Some initial thoughts on classes:
ISB Agent ([AoR], Spy)
Imperial Pilot ([AoR], Ace)
Stormtrooper ([AoR], Soldier)
Electronic Warfare Specialist (Technician, Slicer)
Imperial Army / Naval Guard (Hired Gun, Mercenary Soldier)
Medic (Colonist, Doctor)

Imperial special forces will also allow the Survivalist (Bounty Hunter [EotE]) and Scout (Explorer [EotE) classes.

Engineer [AoR] and Mechanic (Technician [EotE]) will be as they are, just Imperial
Duty will be from the Imperial Duty table:

I'm in V anything by you is worth me cleaning my timetable for that day :) will the srvr be up this sunday so we can tak in real time ? I have some char creation questions :)

Valarian
July 12th, 2014, 12:27
I'll start up the server this Sunday. If the character is one I've got a template for, either Edge of Empire or in the AoR beginner box, I can help set that up (one of those from the notes above). If you've a character idea that isn't yet a good fit, I should be getting the full AoR core book early next week. We can go over it during the week or next weekend.

This will be a new system for me, though I've been doing a few beginner games with my daughter to get familiar with it. The main thing is all the different dice symbols and what they do. My previous Star Wars games have all been either WEG d6 or Fate.

I'm also available on Skype (see my profile).

Hi Valarian I'm interested in joining, however, I will not be able to join until 20th July. I'm up for playing a Stormtrooper/Soldier type if the group needs ones. I played the WEG d6 version for years.

Thanks,
Raz

Likewise interested in joining, could also do July 20 as a character creation session (but not July 13). Interesting storyline elements to explore here from the Imperial side.

Of the character concepts you list, the first ones that grab me are:
--ISB Agent ([AoR], Spy) -- how about a mercenary Bothan who was an intelligence agent who traded information with the Hutts, but now is working for the Empire?
--Electronic Warfare Specialist (Technician, Slicer) -- similar to the above, perhaps this character was a former thief from the Rim who was captured, imprisoned, but proved his usefulness to his superiors and worked his way into their good graces?

Both these characters would know it's a mistake to underestimate the Rebel Scum, despite the militant views of the Imperial staff officers.

Raz, the game itself won'tstart until 7th September. Just doing character creation before that.

Hector, criminal and aliens are problematic in the game planned. Imperials, especially in the armed forces harbour a strong anti-alien sentiment. Criminals are also viewed as scum. An agent or slicer with experience so that he doesn't underestimate the rebels is fine, but most likely to be human and not have committed major crime.

Okay gotcha. I can revise character concepts to fit what you have in mind.

Sounds great. I've recently picked up EotE and I'm itchting to try a gadgeteer bounty hunter if those are allowed.
A ruthless specialist the Empire calls in when it needs the job done, no questions asked.
i have to see if i can commit to the september-december period. I hope I can.

Valarian

The game will be centred on the Victory II class Star Destroyer Vanguard. The characters will be part of the crew, or assigned to the ship as a special detachment (the latter is more likely with current character choices).

Currently we have a pilot, an ISB counter-intelligence agent and an Imperial Security Forces Infiltrator/Sniper. A gadgeteer could fit as another infiltrator type. You wouldn't be a bounty hunter as such, you'd be a member of the ISF.

The themes of the mini-campaign will be the walk between doing your duty and performing acts against your conscience. The Empire stands for order in a chaotic galaxy. What should be done in the name of the greater good? Do you stand for order or chaos, and what price are you willing to pay for order?

Characters will have the choice of their actions. Doing evil is always a choice. Consequences of following orders, or not. The line walked will be obeying orders yet interpreting them to still retain a degree of conscience. There's not a clear descent in to darkness mechanic in the FFG game, unlike previous licenses, but that is the general theme. Characters will start as rank and file. I'm not going to have high powered characters. Force users are out completely. They don't fit.

That sounds like a really interesting place to take the story. I've always wanted to explore the seldom-visited darker elements of the otherwise rather familiar Star Wars universe, especially that eschewing overdone Force mythologies. If I could meet this schedule, I would totally aim for a former artist/entertainer from the social elite turned celebrity propagandist (reporting on feel-good stories about Stormtroopers winning against impossible odds for Papa Palpatine, etc) with her own deeply ingrained anti-alien agenda but little comprehension of the true face of tyranny.

Since I can't contribute, let me just offer my admiration for you Valarian. Whether victory entails redemptive defection or moral capitulation, it sounds like a blast.

I've updated the classes listed with those from Age of Rebellion. All of the classes in Age of Rebellion are suitable for use in the game, with the exclusion of the Force, Emergant (of course).

Are you still looking for more? I've been itching to play since I bought the beta book for edge of the empire, and my rpg group of the last few years just fell apart a couple of weeks ago.

If a spot is still open I will have to take a look at the books tonight to get an idea of what I'd like to play.

Valarian
July 15th, 2014, 20:45
There's currently one slot left for the 6 player maximum. Once that goes, I'll be taking pending as a waiting list. The game itself isn't starting until Sept 7th. There's a second character session on Sunday (20th July).

Haven't quite decided yet. Either going ISF Combat Medic, or ISF Combat Slicer since it doesn't look Medicine or Slicing are covered. I'll peruse all the options for both and pick whichever looks most useful for the group on Sunday.

Valarian
July 16th, 2014, 07:18
Our ISB Agent has medicine, to go with his coercion. Although on the Slicer specialism for Spy, his slicing skills aren't well developed. You could be the technician slicer type role to complement his counter-intelligence slant. The Edge of Empire slicer class might be better for that concept than the age of rebellion slicer spy.

[EDIT] The Soldier, Medic class in Age of Rebellion might also be a fit for your concepts.

In case anyone wants it, there is a very nice excel character creator in the signature block of the OP here (https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/78244-excel-character-builder/).

Maybe a false positive? did you try it?

Also, what's the name kf the campaign in the calendar?

Age of Empire, or the link in the original post of this thread. I've currently switched off the "Waiting for Players", so it may not appear in the general list. There are a full 6 players signed up for the game at the moment. The link should still work though.

Thought these are fun videos in view of the theme of the campaign. Non-canon, however, excellent Imperial propaganda.

I was originally interested in these, but since Archamus and others are covering these two, how about instead a combination of:

Diplomat, Agitator -> Imperial Propagandist
Diplomat, Quartermaster -> Quartermaster

How about an Imperial representative that interfaces with colonies and fringe settlements, part trader and supplier, part negotiator of "agreements" on behalf of the Empire. Food, medicine, and gear on the fringe may loosen many a tongue to the benefit of the Emperor and help spread his light to every corner of the galaxy... "You see? It is better this way. Your bellies are full, and you are now under the protective arm of the Emperor."

The Scout (Explorer [EotE) class could also work well...

Archamus

I have nothing set in stone. I just made a few characters and will wait to see what people are doing today and go from there. It looks like we're going to have an ISF heavy group, so I would also happily go with a bruiser combat focused guy too.

Valarian

From character choices so far, the mini campaign will be an Imperial Security strike team attached to the ship. This means the adventures will be detatched mission based rather than ship based. The Star Destroyer will be a base of operations.

Hi Valarian,
Im new to FG and SW:EoE but I have played/ run many SW Saga Edition games so am not new to the concepts of RPG's or SW. With this in mind I have applied on the calander for a place within your campaign as a 'reserve player' if you have enough 'main' players.

Also on a side note you said you had listed the class's in a 'GM notes' on the calander, I dont seem to locate that, have you since removed the list?

Many Thanks,
Alverstar

The GM announcements are on the right hand side. They appear where the discussion area is. There are enough players at the moment, but reserve is fine.

Valarian,

I'd like to change my character name from Basil Syforth to Nigel Whaitley. Those are twin character concepts I came up for another setting years ago, and I'd gotten them mixed up. Nigel is the right guy. I'll post a character profile in the future.

In the meantime, I've located a character portrait. I can shrink this down when it's time to play next and upload them. Here's a shot of Corporal Whaitley in action, delivering a message from the Imperial Navy to the insurgent rabble on the backwater planet.

If possible i'd like to be considered for one of the backup spots. I have an idea for a commander class character. Fresh out of the imperial academy looking to make a name for himself. As a side question, are all aliens out of the question? some races like chis might fit. was just curious.

A great disturbance in the Force: my wife reminded me that I "want" to join her on a historic home tour all day on Sept. 7, the day of the first session for this game. <Force choke> My apologies; I've updated my availability on the calendar. Fun session tonight, thanks for hosting us, Valarian.

Question, can we include character images for RP flavor, to show off who we are in-game? Portraits, essentially, but not the FG technical term for the little thumbnail used for character sheets. I mean larger images that would fall under the images tab and controlled by the GM, entirely for flavor. They could be sized as you prefer.

Here are two more images I have in mind to depict my scout trooper:

All, I've move into a new house and will need to get a new wireless modem to hook up my desktop (posting this from a smart phone), so my computer is not hooked up today. That's a long way of saying I'll miss out, unfortunately, on today's session. Apologies --moving and boxes are quite disruptive.
