I understand that Steam opens FG to a whole new group of users. That's great! But, I have been using FG for several years.

Is there an advantage for me to download FG through Steam? I already have an Ultimate license.

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't play video games and only have the vaguest idea of what Steam is.

To take advantage of the sale going on over there for one thing... For the rest, someone will need to help me out hehe

More players, more GMs. Always a good thing. Plus, continued support (through more sales) and a widening community. It's getting Fantasy Grounds known, where before only Roll20 may have been heard of.

More income, hopefully more time for JPG and Doug to work on the program away from their dayjobs. (Unless Doug spends everything on shiny solid 24-carat gold dice again... )

Personally, I'm most excited about the idea of having access to Workshop community in the near-future. If some of the community-created rulesets got added, I could probably just "subscribe" to whatever I like & it would auto-install new updates rather than me having to keep checking forum threads for update notices.

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, my question was not succinct enough.

If you already have a Steam, I'd say it's worth hooking FG in to it. Just for the access to new players. If not, it's down to you. I'd probably not create a Steam account especially for this.

Like I said, unless I'm mistaken, you can only buy and install the items on sale if your fg is activated on Steam.

Steam has a built in and pretty good VOIP system. I've used it quite a lot and it is pretty impressive. 6 to 10 people in a call and it is still great quality. It is also incredibly easy to use. If I remember correctly you can't join a group call unless you have a non-free game installed in steam. I think FG2 should count.

So if you want a simple way to hook up with your group for a VOIP session and don't want to give out your Skype username or setup a mumble/ventrilo server, it might be useful to install FG2 via steam.

I don't play video games and only have the vaguest idea of what Steam is.

Steam is more than just a gaming library, however that is its primary function and if you don't play PC games there is little you could get out of it. The other strength it carries is a great selection of social tools, and as Moonlit mentioned the workshop is going to be a great system or keeping rulesets and modules up to date. You can crate groups to be a part of (I have too many), and with those groups you can schedule events (that steam will send you an automated reminder of if you are online), and chat with friends in both IM and voice without having to rely on external programs. But as I have noticed the community is here is already very strong, and therefore you might not gain much by installing steam if you are already content. Plus the fact many of the people on steam are still learning to use the software which is why most of us come here and cry 'AAAAAAA what am I doing!!'

Excellent! I never use voice chat, have trouble finding players or organizing games. It sound like downloading it through Steam really has nothing to offer me or my games specifically. However, I hope it continues to attract more and more players to Fantasy Grounds. I haven't introduced it to anyone that wasn't impressed. The more people that know about it, the more it will continue to grow. I expect to be using it on iPad and Android devices in a few years. ;)

i personally own 150ish game through steam, so for me it's worth the Steam version, as i got to many game to manage them in different publisher site. but if you don'T even have steam, exept maybe for the sales it'S not worth it

@biomage - there are a lot of players coming in thru Steam. If you are looking for players dont be afraid to sign up to Steam and advertise your games there - Steam players seem to also be far more likely to join games at short notice too.
