IE is trying to download links as .php files. Help Needed.

Just a quick question for all you tech-heads out there. I've searched for a few hours online and can't find a solution.

I have a brand new PC running Windows 8.1 with Internet Explorer 11. When I try to click some links to download files, instead of the usual pop-up to choose "Open" or "Save as" for the desired file, instead it gives me the pop-up to open or save a .php file instead.

I've been trying to download the WH40KDarkHeresy.pak that was listed for FG in one of the other forums but it will only download the .php file instead of the .pak file.

Anyone out there know how to fix this?

this has been posted occasionally - suggestions have been to clear browser cache and try an alternate browser... its not a common issue.

As damned says, this has occurred occasionally. Things to try:

Right-click on the link and select "save as".
If the URL in the browser has httpS://.... remove the S so it is just http and refresh the page.

In the long run to prevent this happening again. Stop using IE!! Use Chrome or Firefox GEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZ..... ;)

IE is a very good browser............. to download Chrome with.

This bug has been reported before with IE, Chrome and Firefox.
I *believe* the actual root cause is a failed communication with a server serving a php page - failed either due to data error or web server error and it sets an expiry date on the cache of a date in the future or something along those lines. it then messes up certain types of php links for a while on that browser.
In particular you can find lots of bug reports on firefox regarding this type of problem.

I have this issue all the time on my laptop. I have just gotten used to it.

I download the file to a folder, then I cut and paste where I want it and rename it to what it should be and it works every time.
