Hi Forum,
Lets not forget the full list of games on the events list. There are D&D games, Dresden Files (Fate), Castles & Crusades, Star Wars, and Team Dangerous! (Savage Worlds). Lets see some love for the wide world of TTRPGs!
Check it out for yourselves:

There are 7 Savage Worlds games on the schedule... less so for the others but there are some!
We need more GMs to come out and run games for their favorite Ruleset!

Blackfoot, I checked the schedule and it indicates you are GMing 2 sessions back to back for 11 HOURS straight on the first day !!!!!
I am not worthy... :hurt: and I applaud your courage :rv:

Thanks for the heads-up, actually my first slot should only have been setup for 5 hours, so I get an hour break in between and it's only 10 hours. :)

Still, 10 hours is heroic.

Been really busy making maps for my two games. Having great fun with the firefly/serenity style maps! Not long now.

I really would have liked to participate in the 3.5e sessions, but taking over a 10th level character in a combat heavy scenario doesn't sound to good. I like to get to know my character.
Do you guys think there will be any lower level DnD 3.5e sessions starting up?

Addition of 2 slots of Numenera on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Hi @SirChet - it is unlikely there will be many (if any) more games posted now as FG Con (https://www.fg-con.com/events)starts in 10 days time.
Im not sure I totally follow your response - this is a Con - all sessions go for 2-5hours max. There are 2 sessions/events that have been posted that run over 2 or 3 sessions - Numenera (https://www.fg-con.com/events/the-devils-spine/)which is 2 halves to the same story and I believe best to play in both halves and the Massacre of Kakunodate (https://www.fg-con.com/events/the-massacre-of-kakunodate-part-13/) which is 3 sessions but you can play less than 3.
No one *really* has time to bond with their characters - in many Con scenarios you wont even get to view your characters before the session starts as their may be important story enabling information which comes with the Character...
Playing at FG Con (https://www.fg-con.com/events/) gives you the chance to experience games and groups that you would not normally get a chance to, and if you are playing PFS you can get a few different scenarios completed in a single weekend.

I appreciate the response. I don't think I'll try any PFS this time, (still stinging from the whole elitist thing from last time).
Maybe I'll give being a Ronan a try, should be fun. :)

I am considering adding a Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG 0-level funnel, but none of the rulesets are really ideal for it. It would probably be a Friday night (GMT -4) game. No elitism, but it's an OSR-style game with lots of PC death (but you play 3-4 PCs each).
Edit: Submitted a game for Saturday night from 9:00-11:30 pm. Give it a try - it's kind of a mix of Original D&D and d20/3.5e.

Nice one Leozelig. What ruleset are you going to use?
I think this will be high on quite a few peoples list to have a crack at developing once the GUI Interface builder is available.

If it's any consolation Sirchet, the characters will be labelled according to class and primary build or type, for instance:
Andō Morinari - Samurai (Fighter, Melee)
Akane - Shaman (Cleric, Healer)
Hiro Testu - Hunter (Ranger, Archer)
Each character will also have a brief description of their abilities and background. Not knowing much about your characters is sort of the point imho. You can either invest in your chosen character for the short duration of the campaign, or you can consider it a disposable character that is easily replaced.
For most campaigns the characters take a central role in shaping the story and the world around them. Short campaigns have the opportunity for the story itself to take the stage and the characters to be secondary. With only 15 hours in the game, I'm not going to bother with EXP, there will be no level up, the characters will be built and geared to be above average, and encounters that for the most part are story oriented with little regard for CR. My friends and I often run short campaigns over holiday weekends and they exist as an opportunity for the GM and Players to 'cut loose' a bit using monsters and characters that under normal circumstances, any sensible GM would avoid like the plague.

I booked it as CoreRPG, but I am considering using 3.5 and just reassigning ability score names... Wisdom = Personality and Charisma = Luck, or something like that. I think we will definitely see a ruleset for this when the GUI interface builder becomes available.
I wanted to offer an "old school" option to balance out all those Pathfinder games! The 0-level funnel system is great for a one-shot adventure... Each player brings four PCs, only a handful will survive the night :)
We will play The Portal Under the Stars...the adventure published in the rulebook. If you have played D&D before, you can play DCC RPG!

Would be very nice if there were non society Pathfinder games available. Not sure if things changed sense last I looked, or what, but it struck me as very odd that the only PF games were PFS...was that intentional?

May 7th, 2014, 01:01
Hey Fraust - PFS games suit a convention very well. They are scenarios designed to be played in one session and have a clear start and finish. The material is good and it cuts down on GM prep. There is no plan or design to not run Pathfinder but the GMs have all chosen to run PFS. FG Con also gets some sort of official status for running at least 15 PFS scenarios.
Trenloe can probably answer the question more fully.

I appreciate that, and didn't know about the status for 15 games. That said, PFS has baggage attached that may turn people off. I can say for myself, I would have loved to sign up for more events, but have no desire at all to play in PFS games, don't remember enough about 3.5 to try and run a 10th level character, and wasn't really interested in anything else as far as the actual games. Not trying to sound like someone showing up to a basket ball court and whinning no one wants to play football, just trying to give feedback. Depending on how things go I'd likely be interested in running a PF event next year, so if that's a possibility then great, but just the fact that all the available games were society made me wonder if regular PF games were even an option.

Absolutely no issues with someone running a Pathfinder session or 6 at the next FG Con. We are aiming to run 2 a year (but its a lot of work for all involved - GMs and organisers) so you may get an opportunity sooner. D&D 4 and some sort of Cthulhu are other rulesets we are missing - but we can only run sessions that a GM is wants to run. We dont specify too many things other than Fantasy Grounds (of course) and Teamspeak (to keep it consistent for all events). The PFS guys did get organised and worked to put all the events in no overlapping sessions but thats it.

We've had non PFS Pathfinder games previously... nobody stepped up to run one this time so it didn't happen. There a lot more steam behind the organization for the PFS... so they tend to happen... but there are a bunch of Savage Worlds games and other rulesets running at the Con as well this go around... more than previously from what I can tell. It looks like it's going to be a great time!

I think you've said it pretty well Blackfoot. PFS works well for conventions and we organised a group so that we could get Paizo support. There is nothing stopping any GMs from running non PFS Pathfinder games, but PFS games suit a convention very well. Play one (or more) PFS games, if you're not interested in the organised play aspect (the "baggage") then just let the GM know and play a pregen - so it'll just be like playing any Pathfinder convention game which has pregens provided. Let them know you don't want the chronicle at the end of the game - we will assign you a PFS number so that we can report the game to get credit for it, but you don't have to do anything with that number. Because we have Paizo support all GMs and players enter a prize draw after the convention - who knows, you might win a Paizo PDF! :)
As damned says, we completely rely on volunteer GMs to run the games they want to run so we can't guarantee that any specific games will be ran in any convention. If you have no desire to play PFS games and aren't interested in the other games on offer then I'm afraid you're going to miss out this time around and will just have to wait until next time and hope that there are some games more to your liking - but no guarantees.
But, if you're willing to run one or more non PFS Pathfinder sessions at the next convention that would be fantastic! :) Damned - put him on the list! ;)

Well first game out of the way. Though it was a total organisational mess at the start (that's usually how I roll lol) we soon got into it. Then we just started having fun. Using Create Food and Water to fill an enemies ****pit with jello and cheese, genius. Taking out a zeppelin, making very efficient use of teleport circle, all good fun. Thanks all for attending. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Fizban, was nice to chat to you about your game and how it was progressing, how did it end up panning out, did the party win or lose the war?
Fizban
May 12th, 2014, 09:28
The party won. They were down two characters, and only had a combined total of 34 hp left, but they managed to pull it out of the bag.
The last stand battle seemed pretty easy for the first 15 turns, but when the cleric began to run low on healing it suddenly became harder. They had to face down waves that totalled 500 CR3 soldiers with firearms (equivalent to the STG44), 2 Flamer Mechs (Iron Golems), 2 Gun Mechs (Iron Golems with Gatling Guns +10 ranged 2d10+10), and 3 officers (level 10 clerics). There were supposed to be more Mechs in the fight but the party took out their transport (a huge zeppelin) in the first session.
The players came up with some really good ideas for holding the line. Placing a Wall of Fire (15ft ring) inside a Darkness spell at each of the choke points was classic. Using Create Food and Water inside the Mech's ****pits was fantastic. The players did really well. I honestly had every expectation they would die, and The Ecclesiarchy they were fighting would become the main source of villains for the next campaign.
It's a shame my Firefly game never took off, but great fun was had with this one. Thanks all for showing up. Great job!

Ardem from seeing the comments out there in steamland there are plenty of new players headed this way wanting to play genres other than fantasy :)

That pretty kewl, well I am pretty ready to release the Extinction Event ruleset. It been tested and work pretty well. So I will put a few more polishes and add it to the core download ability.
It be nice to see it out there and what other GM do with it. The biggest benefit I have found with modern day stuff. Google Maps, https link even youtube links can be used to enhance the game. I added a youtube tourism ad at the start of the game to give the guys a feeling of Sydney, Australia. Out of the three americans only one had been, so I think it was nice setting the scene.

I played in and ran both PFS and Non-PFS games at the Con and I found it pretty interesting. The Non-PFS games were much more low key, generally speaking.. they didn't have a timetable to meet so it was really all about the social interaction/entertainment. The PFS games have other rewards that are fun and cool too so it was very tempting to slot my schedule as full as I could with PFS games (character development and game rewards).. but when I had slots open up. It was very relaxing and highly entertaining to fill them with alternative game sessions.
Lots of fun guys!

Folks, we are gearing up for the next Con (in case you are not aware) and there aren't many non-PFS games posted up there yet. Keep in mind that the earlier you get your game scheduled the more likely it is to be filled. Also, creating energy for the Con in a specific ruleset community helps to create more Con games for that ruleset. So talk to your friends and GMs about the Con!
Player Registration begins on the 23rd.
FG Con V dates are October 17-19th.
