Hello Everyone,
I could not find this on the forums and didn't want to wast hours sifting through 100's of posts.
roughly 9 of my friends and I are currently running a killer campaign and we would like to experiment with VTT Gaming. Unfortunately we are forced to play where we DO NOT have internet access. Can we not set up a local offline network using an ultimate package and everyone else connect with unregistered versions?

Thanks

It is my understanding that the Ultimate license needs to "phone home" on the Internet to connect to with unregistered versions. However, a Full Version with lite version clients will work on a local lan without any need to connect to the Internet, you just have to use the local IP address instead of an alias. What type of local network are you thinking to use? Is this an ad hoc network?

Hiya Griogre,
I currently have the full license and some of my friends do have the lite version. so this may work, however I am not sure what you mean by a ad hoc network. 3 of our players are all IT specialists so I am sure they could set up the network so long as the FG software allows for it. To my understanding we would all have laptops all connected into a 32 port switch but not connected in anyway to the nett. Does this answer your question?

Thanks for replying to my question

I was talking about a wireless ad hoc network; which, unfortunately, is similar to just using a switch. FG uses TCP/IP and while I know it would work with a router, my reservation is I am not sure what would happen with the lack of a DHCP server if that is a pure switch as I have never used a setup like that. I believe if you have some IT specialists they should be able to set up something hardware/software to get everyone local IP addresses.

Well, without a DHCP server, you would just have to assign fixed IP addresses to each computer. Pretty simple for a small set of computers.

if all players have a licensed copy it will work - it wont work with the ultimate+unregistered licenses.
with ultimate+unregistered you dont need internet for actual play but a license check occurs hen everyone is connecting or something similar.

for the switch setup - yes no worries - connect to the hosts internal/actual IP address.
