Encounter Balance Question - Wendigos

Can a two-man party of novices take out a Wendigo?

The Wendigo will start with 1 wound (or 2 if needed for balance). It will also be at range, so they will get a few shots before it closes.

My intent in asking is that I don't want the party to die because I gave them too much to chew. However, maybe I should just look at it as, "Well, they can always turn and run."

So, here are the results.

They found the Wendigo injured because the Apache nation had been doing some experimentation on it. The party dispatched the guards that were guarding the beast. Once the beast of course immediately turned on its saviors and a chase ensued.

During the chase the Wendigo lost more life do to its own fever-pitched pursuit (drew a Club). One of the players finished it with a .45 shot (that blew up to 27) to the face.
