Hello,

Is it possible to export characters and import into other campaigns?

Thank you.

Actually, is there a way to export story data from modules into word?

It depends on the ruleset - most support typing /exportchar in the chat window to export a character into an XML file and /importchar to import into another campaign. Or, there are usually import/export buttons in the "manage characters" window.

Not really... Data is stored in an XML format, so you can get at it that way - but it will not directly import into word. You'd need to copy and paste the sections you are interested in out of the db.xml file in the module.

With some rulesets it is possible to import and export the characters into different campaigns though typically you would only do this with different GM's in organized play or to back up a character. What ruleset are you asking about?

There is not a way to export story data, though you could copy and paste it from the story entry into Word. To do so, open the story entry then right click and select "Enter Edit Mode" at 6 o'clock. Next do Ctrl-a to select all the text, then Ctrl-c to copy the text to the clipboard buffer and then click on the word document and press Ctrl-v to copy into the word document.

Edit: Out typed by Trenloe.... :p

Thank you. That was my first best guess, however, it will not cut and paste. I shall try the db.xml file.

Thank you both for all of your help.

You do have to make the story entry editable before it will copy and paste.

Until v3.0 anyways, when the formatted text fields will no longer require entering "edit mode" before you can use them.
