Pathfinder Society Scenario #5–01: The Glass River Rescue (PFRPG) Wed, Aug 28th
08:00 PM BST

A Pathfinder Society Scenario for characters of 1st to 5th level (Tier 1–5).

A Pathfinder leading a diplomatic envoy from the dwarven holds of the Five Kings Mountains has gone missing, and the balance of power in a time of war hangs on her rescue. The Pathfinder Society's divinations indicate the agent was waylaid in the theocratic nation of Razmiran, when one of her escorted diplomats failed to pay a requested tithe. Now it falls to the party to enter Razmiran, locate the missing Pathfinder and the dwarven diplomats, and escape with their lives.

Cool, I've applied using Pyro my first level Sorcerer but can run a 2nd level Paladin or 4th level Monk if it fits in better with the group. I'll post my files once a few more sign up.

Looks like a lower level tier I have an elven druid who's level 2 or I got a couple of level one's. Need to reorganize my files so can probably submit a final person by the weekend

I have accepted seven players on the basis of one is bound to drop out and I have prioritised people who have posted in this thread. However I can think of at least two other players who haven't got around to signing up yet so I think there is the demand for some else gm'ing this adventure. I don't know why this adventure is being so popular, must be gencon plus a new season, it certainly isn't my rather casual gm'ing style so if any one else could run this adventure as well as me it would be appreciated as I hate turning players away

Here's Pyro.

Pyro is somewhat un-hinged gnome who revels is setting things on fire. He has a bad reputation and is rather intimidating despite his diminutive size.

Various fireworks poke out of his backpack.

It's not exactly clear how he managed to get admitted to the society.

If we have no healers I'll get a Wand of Infernal Healing for 2pp before we start, otherwise it'll be a wand of Magic Missile.

Hakeem isn't a healer, but he has a wand of cure light that he can use out of combat. Would be best if you didn't try to use infernal healing on him though.

Ok, so after a little tweaking and making sure it's legal if someone drops out I'll be bringing Zohariel: Lightning mad, split personality, one trick pony sorceress!

.xml's for her and familiar are above as well as latest chronicle sheet.

hawkwind
August 16th, 2013, 17:17
here is my first attempt at a fillable chronicle sheet, hopefully Trenloe or some one will do a better one by the time the adventure is run

also remember that a inventory sheet has to be used on this adventure. You can get a fillable copy from the Paizo site

Cool now we have fire and lightning, job done.

Be interesting to see how Pyro and Zohariel get along :-)

so im not sure how this whole thing works is it acceptable for me to use my level 3 in this or should i work up another level 1?

Nickademus
August 17th, 2013, 00:36
Unless something changed in the last guide, a level 1-5 adventure, being played at sub-tier 1-2 allows up to a level 3 to play. (You can play up to 1 level outside the sub-tier.) Have been out of GMing Society for awhile so it might have changed.

hawkwind
August 17th, 2013, 06:18
It has changed for season five

is all down to average party level as long as every one is level range for the scenario which is one to five

Starting with Season 4, scenarios are designed for six
characters and contain instructions on how to adjust the
scenario for four-character parties. When the APL of a table
is between two subtiers (like APL 3 for a Tier 1–5 scenario),
a party of four characters must play the lower tier without
any adjustments for party size. A party of five to seven
characters whose APL is between two subtiers must play
the higher tier with the four-character adjustment.

the other big change is how gold is awarded for playing up or down. Basically if you are playing out of tier you get the average of the lower and higher level gold reward which I imagine we'll be a disincentive to level four or five characters playing with a bunch of level one or two characters.

This is a common misconception - you *cannot* play a PC that is outside of the tier range for the scenario. The tier is the complete level range of the adventure, in this case 1-5. So, you can play a PC any level in the range 1-5. The subtier that will be played is based off the APL as hawkwind lists above. You cannot play a PC that is even 1 level outside of the tier range. But you can, for example, play a level 5 PC in a subtier 1-2 session for a tier 1-5 scenario.

There are additional rules if the scenario has more than 2 subtiers. Then you cannot play a character that is more than 1 subtier away from the subtier being played (based off the APL calculation).

You may be getting confused with the sanctioned module rules where you can only play 1 level outside of the level of the sanctioned module - a module always has a single level rating. Therefore, if the sanctioned module was for level 5, for example, only PCs of levels 4-6 could play.

None of the above rules are new to season 5 - they have been there for at least one season, probably more.

My information comes from Season 3, when I started GMing Society. I'm a bit shocked after all the complaining (at the time) about overpowered characters that they'd open up the sub-tiers to characters of such vast level difference. I would think even a single lvl 5 in a party of lvl 1's (most likely sub-tier 1-2) would just plow through the quest and sap the fun out of the game. I'd have to see this in action...

Skellan
August 17th, 2013, 20:50
True. It rarely happens though as the rewards for a level 5 playing tier 1-2 suck.

This has actually been the case from at least the beginning of season 3, probably earlier than that. From the season 3 guide (august 2011):

Tiers are a level restriction for play. If your PC’s level does not fall within the level range of a scenario’s tier, that character can not legally play in that scenario. For example, a 5th-level PC is legal for play in scenarios of Tiers 1–5, 3–7, and 5–9; a 1st-level PC can only legally play in a Tier 1 or Tier 1–5 scenario. Within each tier, PCs should play in the the subtier in which they fall whenever possible, but may be allowed to play up or down under certain circumstances, based on the average party level at the table, as outlined below
As I mentioned it is a common misconception that there is a +1 level limit, this seems to come from a misunderstanding of the sanctioned module level rules, not the PFS scenario subtiers.

Nickademus
August 18th, 2013, 01:41
I don't know then. I blame my VC as he is the one that showed me how to GM in Society. I might mention it to him next time I see him to see if he is still doing the +1 sub-tier range.

At any rate, a level 3 in a group of level 1's has never been a problem in my experience, so you should be fine Syndrome.

It should be installed automatically, but there may not be a shortcut to it. Open Windows Explorer and go to: <FG App data directory>\utilities. Run CharacterConverter.exe.

Find the <FG App data directory> from Windows Start -> All Programs -> Fantasy Grounds II -> Application Data Folder.

If you're running Windows 8, hit the Windows key and start typing "character" after the first 3 or 4 characters you should see an app FG Char Converter.
