Greetings,

I am new to FG (though I registered to this site at some point in the distant past) and thought it appropriate to make a "Howdy" post. I did a quick search but did not find an official "Intro" thread and this forum seemed the proper spot.

As the title suggests, I am an old dude (45) and a Air Force retiree, although I am working another job now which probably qualifies me as a "retardee" rather than retiree. :p I grew up playing pnp rpg's with the bulk of my experience in D&D - AD&D, but the last one I played was Shadowrun (1994 maybe??). Military life is not exactly conducive to finding and maintaining a consistent role playing group so I just played video games (another long time love), however, I have never been able to recreate that rpg experience with an MMO despite the erroneous "rpg" label they may have.

So. I recently purchase an "old school" type video game based in the Shadowrun universe and it really got me thinking about my old pnp rpg days. A google adventure revealed that there are now multiple virtual table tops to choose from but FG seems the best to me.

Due to my work schedule fluctuating recently I cannot accurately predict availability. I know I will be on 3rd shift for the next month but it is unclear if that will stay the same after a month. If not, I will move back to 2nd shift. In any case, once I am able to make a faithful commitment to a game, I will avail myself to all the fine recommendations for finding a game that I have read in other posts. Until that time, I just wanted to say "Hi" and begin acquainting myself with the FG community.

In the service of the King,
Bro.T

Hey Devotee - welcome back to the (virtual) game table - I'm older than you so there :D

I dunno if this would be up your alley, but I have a long-time Old West game running every other Friday (see the link below), and we could use one more player. The game is semi-realistic - think Red Dead Redemption, if you're familiar with that. The game system is just Castles & Crusades (very much like a simple version of early AD&D), but with western character classes and items. The game system is very easy to pick up, so it's more important for you to be an easy-going player that to have a lot of either PnP or Castles & Crusades or Fantasy Grounds experience. Very easy-going group, supportive, and all about enjoying the cinematic western flavor, as opposed to shooting things all the time. If you're interested, check out the link for all the details, and PM to let me know you're interested.

Current characters are a Southern cavalry officer and field surgeon, a former sideshow sharpshooter and trick rider, a British ex=pat bounty hunter, an ex-Union scout, and a Pah-Ute Indian mountain man. They are currently escorting a wagon train through the deserts of northwestern Nevada towards the redwoods in Eureka, CA.

Hi, and welcome. It may help potential GMs to know where abouts in the world you are (timezone) as this is a global community. I'm presuming US from the Air Force reference (us Brits would refer to the RAF). If this is the case, I'll be running a Saturday game starting in September. It will be an evening game UK time, which would probably be mid-afternoon for you.

The game will be using the Fate Core system, and the setting is the Babylon 5 universe.

Thanks for the offer! I have never played a western rpg but I do love westerns. As I mentioned, my work schedule is a tad uncertain over the next couple of months. Friday's would work great on my current shift, however, if this 3rd shift ends (which it looks like it might since the new shift bid sheets are up and there is no 3rd shift on it) then I wouldn't be able to make it since I would be working till midnight on Friday. What I don't want to do is commit to a game and then let everyone down.

I have made some inquiries and I may be able to get a solid answer on what the plan is at work so I will get back to you as soon as I know. If you find someone else for the spot, please don't hold anyone else up on my account. Thanks again for the offer!

Quite right! I am in the Eastern time zone (Georgia). And, you presume correctly, sir. I never watched B5 so I know nothing about it, nor have I any experience with the Fate Core system. Still, I am not apposed to attempting to learn new things. I will check out the link and thanks for the offer!

No worries - I've more or less been constantly looking, and it's just not a game that gets much interest. If you enjoy westerns, you'd probably get a kick out of the game - lots of atmosphere, nice vibe. Just let me know if you'll have the time available and want to give it a shot - more than likely, the spot will be available :) You'd be welcome to come in and try a session or two and see if you enjoy it, too - don't need to commit to anything without knowing whether you'll like it or not. Just drop me a line when you're ready.

Be great to have you in the game. The Fate Core rules are available on the Evil Hat website on a pay-what-you-like basis btw.

Welcome Bro.T!

You are right, FG is the best of the VTT options available, in my opinion at least.

One thing to mention is that I think many people here gaming with FG are "older" (I'm in my mid-40s myself) and have spouse/family/work commitments to work the hobby in around... I think generally speaking, once you find a solid group, it tends to stick together, but that just may be my experience. I have two active groups and one on summer hiatus... if there ends up being room in one of them come late September, I'll drop you a PM.

Cool! Thanks for keeping me in mind! I see you are running Greyhawk campaigns. I believe that was the very first campaign boxed set I ever got my hands on. A friend of mine bought it and we rushed back to his house and laid it all out on the table. I had a thing for maps back then and I used to draw my own all the time. My school book covers were made from paper grocery bags and I covered them all in hand drawn maps. That huge fold-out map from the boxed set was the high-light of the whole set to me.

Yep I remember this too. Omg I think I may be one of the old dudes. I also remember when the pre folded fancy ones you could buy at the dime store came out and my mom said "you dont need those to get good grades"

Ha! I should think that if the purchase of those little "pre-fold fancies" could have produced good grades, my mum may well have been a stock holder!

I have downloaded the Fate rules and will be reading through them.
