Just for grins, here's a wanted poster from my Old West campaign:

Our resident British Bounty Hunter just brought this fellow in to a local sheriff's office in Mill City Nevada, and as they rode out of town, the jail was struck by a bolt of lightening out of a starry sky. As you might guess, Hieronymus Zeus was not to be found in his cell in the aftermath. Hey, I said it's "semi-realistic." :D

Turns out the local sheriff's office doesn't have $500 in gold coins sitting around - gotta go to the state capitol or a big town like Carson City or Winnemucca (they're in a little boom town right now that more or less probably will essentially not exist in a decade), or wait around for the money to be delivered by Wells Fargo... or more likely, telegraph the State Marshall's office when you're going to be somewhere long-enough to have them send it to a local office or bank.

That said, they haven't asked about that yet ;)
