Hello,

I've been going through the forums trying to find a manual or written tutorial on the fantasy grounds II system. Purchased the ultimate license, however, it is unclear how you invite folks to game as well as the general setup. Is there a quick start guide for players and dms? Or a general overview how the program works?

Thank you in advance.

Kyle

Hi Tingler and welcome to the boards. Unfortunately, there isn't a written manual for FG. There is user documentation in the Library link on this site though: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/library/

I'd suggest you look at the 4E and/or Pathfinder video tutorials as a first step. Even if don't plan to run one of them they will be helpful. There are located on this site in the Downloads section: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/downloads/

If you have specific questions just ask. Also you will probably find it helpful to sit in on a real game just to watch. Most GM's don't mind a having an observer.

Edit: I forgot to mention that one of the best ways to try out GM'ing is to start a second instance of FG with a different user name and connect to your server using the localHost or internal IP address so you can see both the GM and Player screens.

Awesome. Thank you so much.

Where's a good place to find a game?

The guild house forum is the usual place where people post announcements for games: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-Guild-House

It may take you a few days to find a game, as most people are already playing ongoing campaigns and you'll only see people coming to the guild house forum to announce new games, look for a player to fill a spot in an ongoing campaign or look for a game (like you).

If you post in this forum specifically what you're looking for (a demo game, or something more), what timezone you're in and if you're interested in a specific FG ruleset or any game. This will help prospective GMs to know what you're looking for and if you're looking for a demo what you're interested in.

I learned a lot from Keith Hersheys videos when I got started. He has a whole series for players and GM's alike. https://www.youtube.com/user/khersheyjr?feature=watch

On a more general note, Engine Publishing do some good ebooks on game management and session prep.

Dominic Walsh's book: https://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/86465/Gamemastering-%28English%29?term=gamemastering

Then there's Robin Laws' books:
