View Full Version : Drag and drop powers?

Is it possible to drag and drop powers onto the character sheet from a module library?

I have scraped powers from DDI into a module and am able to drag and drop the power description onto the character sheet but still have to manually enter all the effects of the power. Is it possible to reduce the time spent on this fairly tedious activity?

[Edit]: I confused the issue by talking about a character sheet - I mean an NPC stat block.

Cheers

If you load the module containing the powers and then find a power and drag the link (icon of white dragon in the red square) onto the powers area of a character sheet it will add the power.

If you have parsed correctly in the first place it will have the name of the power, a link of the power which opens a full description of it, the relevant attack/dmg/effect information (press sword icon to reveal this), and a description of the power (click magnifying glass to reveal this).

Occasionally the parser will misunderstand some syntax of a power's atk/dmg or effects and it has to be manually edited to bring it in line but those are the exceptions not the rule.

If you are not seeing these things automatically when dragging and dropping powers I suspect its because they didn't parse correctly.

The screen you attached is for a PC - my powers et al are dropping onto PC sheets without any problems. I confused things by calling it a character sheet, but my problem is I can't drop powers etc onto an NPC stat block.

In 4e, NPCs by default don't use the same powers that PCs have. NPC design in 4e does not follow character design the same way that other editions of D&D did. I guess if you are creating an NPC there's no reason you couldn't use existing powers to do it.

That said, I'd never done it before but it still works fine. Click the NPC button on the right, click NEW, then drag the link onto the powers area of the statblock. This adds the power name, recharge, range, keywords, and the description which contains the attak/dmg/effect information.

That's weird - I swear I tried that a hundred times without success. Now, I tried it and it works. Go figure. Anyway, it's all good - thanks. :)

No problem, glad you don't have to re parse ;)

One thing that always gets me when I'm modifying NPCs - when you open an existing NPC it will be locked and you can't modify it, you need to unlock it by clicking on the icon in the bottom left. This might have contributed to you not being able to add new powers? Anyway, something to keep in mind for the future. :)
