I have a battle with a number of friendly NPCs and the PCs against a lot of monsters. I want the players to be able to control and see some of the NPCs.

Is it possible to give specific players control of specific NPCs? If not, what would be the best way to handle this situation in FG?

Cheers

You can drag and drop the link for a NPC statblock onto the portrait of a player, this will share that statblock with them and when they click its abilities the roll will come from the NPC. However, they won't be able to control the NPC target that will have to be communicated by them to the GM and the GM has to make the NPC target.

Thanks for the tip. That method will share the NPCs stats temporarily but if the player closes the stat block or the DM does it has to be re-shared (the player can't do it themselves). However, drag the NPC stat block onto a slot at the bottom of the screen and voila - it can be opened by the player at any time. The targeting may need to be done by the DM but movement can be done by the player and that's great. Cheers and thanks again.

Good find, I always forget about the quick keys and their various uses!

There is an extension built for the 3.5e ruleset that shows the NPC list in the right hand toolbar to the players (just those NPCs shared to whichever player). https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17846

This could easily be adapted to 4e so that the players can re-open any NPCs shared to them. And, the added bonus is that the GM can remove the sharing on individual NPC records when they want by clicking on the small "S" icon in the GMs NPC list.
