Hi All,
I've just finished uploading the first 3 of my Video Tutorials for FG2 onto YouTube, with many more to follow - yes, I know its been done before (many, many times) but I thought I'd give it a go as well (and try to give something back to the community). :D
Watch 'em or not, like 'em or not, its up to you - I had fun making 'em for my Players and they got what they needed out of 'em - I hope you do to. :)
AN UPDATE
I had to change the videos and thus their locations - see post below - sorry.
Enjoy

Thank you for taking the time to teach people about FG II.
You are very clear and the tutorials were well thought out.

Thankyou.
I'm glad you liked them.
Feel free to share them with your friends, and keep an eye out for the rest (mind you, it'll be at least a week before the next one is ready) :D

Argh!
No these look polished an professional, and he has got the whole series planned, it makes mine look piecemeal and amateurish (which they were and are!)
Stop now please! :p
Seriously though very nice indeed.

Wow - thanks Doswelk.
Coming from you that really means a lot to me (I've lurked for a while on the boards & so have a fair idea who's who).
Not that I don't appreciate all the nice words people have said - I DO!
It might interest you to know that I'm a Senior ICT Project Manager, so planning things out in advance is sort of what I do anyway - it helps in the (hobby) coding I do also (and it helps in GMing as well :D )

Hi All,
Well, I've just (re)posted my original 3 videos after having updated them - and in hindsight it probably wasn't a worthwhile idea, considering the amount of work for the changes involved and the fact that I removed the old ones and thus lost all the "likes", etc. from my YouTube Channel. So, I don't think I'll be doing that again!
The good news is that I've also posted a new video (and there's a fifth one on the way - its just going through "proof-reading" now). People might like to subscribe to my YouTube Channel to make sure that they get the notifications of any updates in the future.
Anyhow, the four videos are at:

These videos are great.
One thing I might suggest is a little more description for each one.
You're really starting from some very very basic steps and the average user might not need the first 2-3 videos.
Perhaps with each linked video a short bullet point summary of the topics reviewed would add value (I'm not saying change the video - put them on the actual YT page).

As someone who spent many years firmly involved in uploading videos about various games and nerdy things to YouTube, I just thought I'd offer my two cents on how to go about "update" videos in the future. If it helps, feel free to take said two cents. If it doesn't, that's okay too!
Perhaps the easiest way is to simply create your revised video, upload it, and then just go back to your older video for some tweaks. You can put a pause timer on it, slap on an annotation that says 'updated video found here! *link*', and also update the video info area with a link to the new one as well. This will, hopefully, slowly filter viewers over to the new video, as the old one is probably being found on searches more readily (due to likes, views, tags, popularity, etc).
May seem silly to some, but I thought it may help. I certainly don't mean to condescend! Keep up the great work! :)

That's not a bad pair of ideas (JohnD & Laconiclament) - I'll do that in future - thanks.
While I may be starting from what SOME consider the basics, I'm doing so consciously because:
1) After years of Lecturing, Mentoring, Teaching and Tutoring I've found that the BEST way to get a complex concept, etc, across is to assume NO knowledge and to pick people up on the way.
2) Being a professional ICT PM I've seen it again & again where programmers, documentation writers and others assume that, because they understand the subtitles of the program/code (because they're use to it), that it doesn't need to be explained to everyone else - which can be incredibly frustrating to those who don't know/see/understand what the subtitles are.
3) When my Players and I first starting using FG2 we found ourselves lost more often then not - and its not as if we were stupid (after all, we all have University Degrees (or better) in Maths, ICT, Engineering, Psychology, Advanced Business, etc). Hence me starting this project in the first place. :p
Yes, the documentation is there, but even with it it can be a bit hard to find what you're looking for - and really, who (apart from Alpha-Geek ICT PMs) reads documentation any more?
I know it wasn't meant as a criticism, but I thought I'd just explain why I'm doing things the way I am.
Cheers

I think it's a fabulous project you're working on, and thank you for doing it!
I remember when I first picked up FG2 (as it was not all that long ago at all, really), and I agree wholeheartedly with you. It's easy to get overwhelmed when taking all of the nuances in....even WITH documentation aplenty on this here site. I also feel that, through no fault of their own, it's easy for vets to start to assume/take for granted some aspects...just as you stated above. Don't get me wrong, the community here has always been very helpful and friendly and patient; and it's definitely true that FG2 is mostly "learning by doing".
Nonetheless, various tools and aides...from members of the community, regardless of experience level...can only help. Not hurt! And, again, the amount of effort and planning you've put into your videos is very evident (at least to me). That's nothing to shake a stick at! Thanks for applying your energies towards our mutual hobby in such a way. Keep up the great work!

Certainly, no arguments with your rationale. Just saying if you give those bullet points, you'll allow the viewer to decide at what level of complexity they should be starting to view the tutorials. :)

I just started watching the A-02, and the link to Peregrine IT doesn't work.
Did we leach too much bandwidth?

-> Nickademus: The rest are on their way. As I'm sure you can appreciate, it takes a few days or so for me to do each one, what with Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production, and then I've got to fit "life" in around all that as well :D . So hang-in there, they're coming (slowly).
No, I don't mind if you link to them.
-> dberkompas: yeah, I've got server troubles at the moment, and its playing up in funny ways. I really need to replace it, but I can't justify the funds at this pont in time. In the meantime, use the YouTube ones and I'll drop a reply into this Thread when I've resolved the server problem (one way or another). BTW, that's the link from the YouTube Channel, right (private email is fine for your reply)?
And thanks for the thanks.

just started watching them (4 in now), and while they are slow-moving, for a novice like me that's excellent. I already learned quite a few extra details that will help me a lot when we get to actually run the program on the campaign (so far we just tested connections, die rolls, etc.).
Keep 'em coming!
