Hi,
I have been looking at various virtual table top programs for online RPG playing and so far FG looks to be the best, but I have a couple of questions.

First, where can I learn more about the Generic ruleset? I went to the wiki link for it, but it just had the download link, not any information about it. Is there a place I can find details about how it works and how customizable it is? Can I pick/name specific stats, rolls, damage, etc... with it? Specifically, I am looking to run a Fantasy Hero campaign online, and while I can see that the Hero System isn't available as a pure ruleset (yet, I hope) I was wondering if I could at least add in Hero System specific terms/feilds into teh generic ruleset (things like STUN, BODY, etc...)?

Second, If I buy the Ultimate package for FG, how does it work for non-registered players (I assume registered player are one that buy FG lite)? How do they log into the game? How are their character sheets saved, etc...? Are all their characters saved into my campaign/account? How are they assigned each time we play?

Thanks for any info and help.

The generic ruleset works pretty much like a face to face game where nothing is automated. You can put anything you want on the charcter sheet so you would just put in all the Stats/skill for Fantasy Hero. I did a video on how a player would use it that might help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3bFIsLULh8

I haven't had time to get back to make a video on stuff from the GM side but the idea is similar: use, hot keys and the tracker to keep track of initiative. You use FG to roll the dice and share the images/battlemaps and move tokens around on them just like you would see in the demo.

I believe Moon_Wizard said you could run any ruleset in the demo. Going from memory download the FG Web installer and run it and install an unregistered version. Then go to the Start button and press it and select -> All Programs -> Fantasy Grounds 2 -> Application Data Folder. This should pop up a window. Create a new directory called rulesets with the exact case (note the plural). Take the download from the wiki and unzip it. It should be called Generic. Go into the folder and make sure you can see some other folders called fonts, frames, icons, scripts, tokens with a bunch of XML files. One of the common problems with installing rulesets is people have Generic in another Generic folder and then the fonts and all the rest and that doesn't work. So it should be ...\rulesets\Generic\fonts *not* ...\rulesets\Generic\Generic\fonts

Thanks Grioger! That you tube clip help a lot. Love the hot keys, will make playing a lot smoother.

Now about my second question, how do unregistered player loging in work? How do I assign them the same characters everytime, etc...?

When a player selects a character on the the character selection screen, their user name takes ownership of that character. Whenever a user with that name logs in they will see that character, but no other users will. If a character has no owner, then it will appear on the character selection screen of anyone logging in.

Any ruleset can be used with the demo copy, but you will need a copy of an example campaign to see it in action. Example campaigns are installed for the 3.5E and 4E rulesets.

Characters have an 'owner' in the form of a user log-in. When users log in to FG, they see any characters they have created offline for that particular game system, any characters that they are assigned as owner, and any un-owned characters. The GM can clear the owner of a character, allowing other players to take over the character. It's an pretty unobtrusive & effective system that you'll quickly find you almost don't even notice.
