View Full Version : Fantasy Grounds on Steam Greenlight

No, you did NOT price-match the items. I live in Sweden, so I have the Euro pricing on Steam (usually so unfair). So instead of paying 48.71€ on steam, I just bought the exact same items from you for $48.75. That made me save nearly 27% :D
So, in short words: I love you Doug :P
Now I own Savage Words Delux ruleset, Savage Worlds Adventure deck, Deadlands Reloaded: Marshall's Handbook and Extension and Deadlands Reloaded: Player's Handbook :)
By the way. Regarding some earlier post from Nylanfs. I did not buy the Ultimate license. Just the Full one!
Well, I wish I could take credit for that, but I think that is just the difference on how Steam and Paypal each handle currency conversions. I'm glad it worked out for you.

Pricing-wise, as long as we can get the Ultimate posted on Steam, it will sell for $149.99 on Steam. I am so far planning to do a 25% launch discount on Steam for each product as it gets released. Those run for a week by default.

I had already keyed my Ultimate license in - it just said, "Fantasy Grounds". Now that the system is capable of recognizing my key as Ultimate, how do I get Steam to recognize it as such?
damned
May 16th, 2014, 23:53
Steam doesn't recognise different licenses yet. Functionality is accurate it just doesn't display in your steam game list as such.

If you haven't tried this already, try right-clicking on FG in your steam library and select delete local content. This will just delete the basic steam FG launcher files, not anything to do with your normal FG install.
Then double click on the FG entry in your library to reinstall.

The Full to Ultimate upgrade sold on FG store will work for FG versions originally purchased on Steam.
We're still figuring out whether we can set up the Full to Ultimate upgrade on Steam the way we want to.

As a long term Steam user the way you guys really want (showing up as Fantasy Grounds Ultimate) isn't likely to happen. There are literally hundreds of games and softwares that have an "ultimate" version and none of them show up as a different game, they're just a DLC you can purchase. I can't see this happening exclusively to Fantasy Grounds just because some users want it this way. Not to disencourage you guys to ask Steam to do it but it seems to be a lot of work. Ultimate License could be put there as a simple DLC for FG. Yea, I'd LOVE that it would show up as FG Ultimate for me, but it doesn't seem practical.
Plan B: The devs create an official "unofficial" Steam group that is invite-only and called Fantasy Grounds Ultimate License Holders.
Joking aside, I don't mind that it just says "Fantasy Grounds". Afterall, that IS what it is. The license only determines the extent of functionality; it doesn't change the fact that it is "Fantasy Grounds".
When you first install Windows, you aren't loading "Windows Non-Genuine" and then once you activate it (i.e., purchase the license to use it) you are now using "Windows Genuine". You are always using "Windows" plain and simple and it is the extent of functionality that is controlled by the licensing. I don't see FG being any different and the need for Steam to indicate otherwise.

If people want to show off that they are the proud owner of an Ulitmate lic...then have steam make a Badge for those users (or other Steam item) to show off. :)

Hmmm... now I need to read up on Badges.
I've bought a lot of games on Steam for my alt account -- but I haven't actually had much time to play them. I'm lucky enough if I get them installed. Otherwise, I think I can best be described as a Game Collector. Often times, I think I've bought the same game through Steam that I already own simply to add it to my collection and because I liked it.
Badges sound like a good idea if I can figure out what needs to be done.

Badges on Steam seem to be linked pretty heavily to trading cards and your Steam account level. There is a whole other collectible side that people evidently get into and as a publisher on Steam, it looks like we would need to adopt the whole thing. I don't think that is necessarily bad. It doesn't personally appeal to me to try to collect digital items to complete badges, but evidently a lot of Steam users like it. What I'm reading seems like you can give digital trading cards whenever items are purchased or by playing the game and these have various rarity levels. Completing a set of cards allows you to trade it in for a badge and there are then 6 different levels of badges. When people collect enough badges, they level up on Steam. (Scratches Head)

You also seem to get badges for "in-game achievements". Not sure what these are, but could logging in or starting a campaign with an official ruleset be one of them?

Its all part of the social networking of the platform and a means for Valve and publishers to reward and recognise users of their products. It helps build the social micro-community with the Steam macro-community. In much the same way its akin to console platform achievement systems ala XboxLive (Gamerscore/points) and PSN (Trophies).
Its all about bragging rights. :p Mines bigger than yours ...

I believe you can set rewards for various things. We may be limited in how flexible we can be since we don't integrate tightly with the Steam API with our current approach. The Workshop tool will integrate with Steam, so it's possible that doing things with the workshop might provide some additional rewards.
Some clarifications...
There is only ONE Steam badge PER GAME. Badges are NOT associated with DLC. Essentially, if it appears in your Steam "Library" as an explicit entry, then you can have a badge for it.
There are 5 "levels" for a badge (some badges are unlimited, but I think those ones are controlled strictly by Valve for their own promotional stuff. Otherwise, all other devs have 5). You level up a badge by collecting "trading cards". By combining cards, you "craft" a badge. This promotes the level of your badge and gives you Steam "xp" to advance your overall general Steam "level". The developers set how many cards are needed to craft a badge. Cards can either be sold or traded. Once you've crafted a higher level badge, that badge replaces your previous one. At any one time you only ever have ONE badge. Each new levelled badge has some slightly different artwork to distinguish it from the previous level. For example, Zeus provided two badges. The level 1 badge could look like just the plain shield. The level 2 badge adds the laurel. The level 3 badge adds the laurel + crown, etc.
Then there are what's called "achievements". These show on your profile what you have actually accomplished within the game, for example, created a campaign, used a macro for throwing dice, etc. It's in this section that you can also have DLC as "achievements". The list can be expanded indifinitely at any time by the devs.

I tried to install Fantasy Grounds on Steam for Mac, but I did something strange and now Steam does no longer downloads FantasyGrounds.app. Neither verify integrity of game cache nor re-installing does help.
This is what I did:
1) Installed the Mac demo (but it did not start)
2) Deleted local game content (of Demo)
3) Activated my Fantasy Grounds II key on Steam
Since step 3, I can install Fantasy Grounds, but Steam simply does not download anything.

Why did you do Step 2?
You can download and install direct from this website.
I dont have a Mac so Im not sure how the Steam wrapper impacts but have you tried uninstalling FG from within the Mac OS?
FlynnTheAvatar

Deleted local game content (of Demo)
deleted all or part of it outside of the usual install/uninstall?
Have you tried Uninstalling it?
FlynnTheAvatar
May 24th, 2014, 11:01
Steam deleted only the FantasyGrounds.app (Wineskin Wrapper + FG installation) in "Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Fantasy Grounds". I did not see any other files created/deleted by Steam.
I still have my main installation in a CrossOver Bottle, but this totally seperate from Steam. CrossOver knows nothing of Steam and the other way round.

Try this. Log out of Steam and then Log back in. Right click FantasyGrounds in your Library and select Install Game. If that doesn't work, navigate to the Store FantasyGrounds entry and re-download the Mac .app.
Once the .app wrapper has downloaded and installed, it should work - be warned the first time you launch FG it takes a minute or two before the launcher window appears. When it does, make sure you go into settings and update.

Thanks Zeus,
but sadly, this does not help. Things I already tried:
- Delete Local Content, Log out, Log in, Install FG -> Steam shows Fantasy Grounds as "installed", but .app wrapper is missing
- Delete Local Content, Log out, Reboot, Log in, Install FG -> Steam shows Fantasy Grounds as "installed", but .app wrapper is missing
- Log out, deleted all Steam files in Library/Application Support/Steam, Log in, Install FG -> Steam shows Fantasy Grounds as "installed", but .app wrapper is missing
Steams shows it downloaded FG, but the status is "DOWNLOADED: 0 bytes/0 bytes".
I simply cannot get Steam to re-download the app wrapper correctly :(

I had a similar problem the other day, but logging out and logging back in cleared it for me.
All I can suggest is re-downloading from the Store (not the Library entry). Also - check the download region your Steam client is set to (Preferences).

Hey guys, the only problem I can think of is that I turned the Ultimate upgrade DLC active in the store, but it only had Windows PC keys loaded at the time instead of having some set for All Platforms or Mac keys. The builds had not changed since it was tested as working yesterday. I've since added some "All Platform" keys and it seems to be working for me at the moment. Tried on both machines and I still get 0/0 bytes downloaded on both machines. I have removed Steam twice, cleaned up the Library/Application Support/Steam directories, logged all machines (PC & Mac) out of Steam, re-installed, but still get nothing to download. Eru and Flynn, is the common issue between the two of you that you both used the Activate a Product option? Can you post roughly what time and day this might have occurred? I'm still wondering if you two (and a few others) got caught in the middle of the license key change-over somehow.
I'm not sure if I will hear back from Steam until Tuesday during normal business hours for them. If I hear back sooner, I'll be sure to update everyone here and on the Steam forums. Hello everyone, I have good news. The Activate a Product option for Mac users should now be working. If you've already activated it, you should be able to Delete Local Content and re-install to get it to work on Mac. Our Valve contact got back with me and showed me that there was one additional package labeled as ThirdParty Retail which needed to have the Mac files added to it. Previously, I had only noticed Beta, Development and Retail. Since we have 24 or so different products, we have nearly 75 different packages and this and others which have third-party keys actually have a fourth package each.
Thanks for everyone's patience and for letting us know of the issue. Please let us know if you have any further issues.
Also, it may be necessary to quit out of Steam entirely and then come back in before your client sees the new files.

If you bought your Ultimate license before May 9th, it will allow you to activate a product on Steam to unlock Fantasy Grounds. There is no difference between the Ultimate and the regular version of FG in the base files. Once you enter your license key into your settings, it will unlock the Ultimate functionality. For CoC, or anything you've purchased from our Store, just put in your FG forum username and password in the settings of FG and it will download those. If you purchased them from Steam instead, it will download from there.

While there is support on Steam for in-game voice, we opted not to use that feature since it would prevent people from gaming with people who were not running through Steam. We thought it was best not to segment the audience. The existing options, such as Teamspeak, Skype, Google Hangouts are all still recommended.

Existing FG users can now "Activate a Product on Steam..." and enter their existing Full, Ultimate or Ultimate Upgrade Key to have Steam recognize that they own the product.
Question: if we do this, what are the rights of Steam on our FG installation? Can it delete or edit any files within it without our consent?
And a note about pricing: FG full is currently under 29€ in the SmiteWorks store, it's at 37€ on Steam.

For Windows users, the Steam version installs a shell into the paths managed by Steam and this in turn downloads and installs FG into a location outside of Steam's control if it doesn't already exist at that location. If you Delete all Local Content from Steam, it will delete and remove the Shell application.
For Mac users, it installs a wrapper including FG and Wine into the Steam controlled folder. Deleting all local content from within Steam's interface will remove your FG files. There is no shell in this case.
