I am wondering if I am alone in this, but I find being unable to resize the chat window or change the font color/size a little frustrating. After about an hour or so of gaming my eyes really bother me from trying to read that default font in that window. I keep finding myself trying to stretch it out hehe.

One other person told me they find the text really hard to read for long periods.

So it made me wonder if others feel this way, or if perhaps there is some modification or tool that I am missing, that would let me adjust that?

Certain skins make if much worse, especially those that sort of bleed/smear over the corners of the chat box area.

I have the same problem with the small font entirely! :(

As well as size and type of font, I'd like to be able to change the different font colours for out of character and actions too.

Also, with so much going on over the screen it'd be good to be able to move and re-size the window so I could put it flush with the left of the screen instead of the current area of wasted space there and then I could resize it's width so it's narrower and drag the bottom all the way down to the bottom of my monitor hiding the other dead zone on my monitor resolution leaving more space for maps and combat tracker.

The chat window can be resized, if the ruleset supports that option. The 3.5E and 4E rulesets do support that option, and I believe that the SW and RMC rulesets have built in in also (though I have not confirmed).

To move/resize the chat window in the 3.5E and 4E rulesets, you need to unlock the window first by right clicking on the chat window and selecting the unlock option. Once unlocked, the chat window can be moved and resized like any other window on the FG tabletop. You can also relock the window, once you have it where you want. At this point, the chat window setting is not remembered, so it will need to be moved each session.

There is no way to override the font size, since all the fonts used in FG are bitmap fonts. However, I am working on a feature for the next version (v2.9.2) which allows you to scale the entire tabletop, including the chat window, for easier visibility on large screens. v2.9.2 is currently in testing, and more information can be found in the Laboratory forum.

You're a STAR Moon Wizard - thanks! I can't wait to try that out on our next session! :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, Moon, but if you're a dev-type person, the chat font in a ruleset can be changed by using the "FGFontGenerator.exe" utility that is available on the Downloads page on this site. This involves unpacking the ruleset, finding the font files therein, and replacing them with a new font file created with the utility using the fonts on your computer. This does involve a bit of trial and error, and I imagine might be a problem in some rulesets if they use the chat font in multiple places.

That said, you can change any of the fonts in the ruleset - I used it extensively for my Old West skin. Be advised, though, that the font specified in the main ruleset is then used for everyone playing the game - individuals cannot specify their own fonts.

Also, it should go without saying, but make backups of your ruleset before messing about. Also be advised that unless you make an extension that changes the font (a whole other topic), any new versions of the ruleset will likely (always?) replace your fonts with the default ones, requiring you to change them back again.

True. I was thinking more about changing on a per-individual basis. With v2.9.1, there is no way to change the font size, without changing the ruleset and applying the changes to everyone in the session.

Cheers,

As an ugly work around you can always change your screen resolution as well. If you are on a large monitor, at least it will work right away and most video cards these days allow you to switch resolutions on the fly.

The chat windows in the RMC ruleset can't be resized with the current version. I will try to add it to the next release.

Oooh - I can't wait! :D

How's the RMU work going?

Nicholas just surprised me with the news that the RMU needs to be roughly edited for the beta release. I'm still in the middle of fixing all of Eric's shoddy work on HARP Fantasy. :O

I've got to get my skates on! :(
