One thing that was in one of my other takes but left out of the final version was about the defensive bonus section of the combat tab. The shield value isn't included in the combat tracker because you need to include the shield in the weapons section to have it on the combat tracker.

I will try to put together a couple more soon.

Really Good :)

Next logical video to do would be to run through a couple of rounds of combat I guess.

That's the plan but it is difficult finding a quiet place to record them. Audio issues have been the toughest part getting them done. I will try to have a couple sample combat rounds done soon.

That helped a lot. I was dragging things from the wrong places and it wasn't working properly. Thanks!

Also, a couple of combat rounds showing how you handle initiative, attacks, hits, critical hits, movement, etc. would be really helpful too!

I added a couple more videos for setting up your campaign. I tried doing a sample combat but I need to organize things a bit better before I do a sample run through. I will try to get one up tomorrow night.

First of all Dakadin; Thanks for offering me to show me how it works (you wrote to me on the ICE forum), I never got back to you, and I feel bad about that... The main reason is that it was decided in our group to use PF, at least to start with, and I kinda forgot about it until I saw this thread..

Second: You have, with your videos, now made it HARDER for me to accept the decision to use PF instead of RM... You made me want to see OB/DB, AT, Body development, etc again in my RPG system! I hope you keep on working on it, so WHEN (not IF, but WHEN) I convince my group we switch to RM I will have a better case, when I present the videos to my group :).

Keep at the good work! :D

I like that challenge. :D I think once I get the combat sample video done, it will be hard not to switch. It is amazing how well FG handled the table look ups and some of the other things that would slow done a Rolemaster game.

PF v Rolemaster ummmm it is a no brainer. Considering all the hard work as GM has benn taken away from you, I can run some pretty heavy combat scenes. Those scenes would of taken a whole night paper and pen style but now it is no different then a PF game in terms of speed.

RM FTW!

Heh! I agree with you on this. A no brainer. But the thing is, Im not the only one to decide what to play, GM or not ;). Also we have now had two session in a adventure path for PF and its going just great. So if I now talk about changing the system I think some of them will start to grumble and whine ;).

My plan is to follow this adventure path in PF as long as we can, maybe even finish the thing! And while we do that I smooth talk them into switching after that (ninja style :bandit: ).

I remember all to well the heavy lifting in terms of combat and tables, thank you very much ;). thats why I made my own house rules and handled combat in an EXCEL sheet I made and a much more advanced character creation again made in EXCEL. After all that, I actually decided to take an education in IT and first worked for 5 years as a programmer and now as a System engineer... all because of RM ;).

I posted a link to a combat example video. Unfortunately the quality isn't as good as I would have liked. Hopefully it will be of some use. If not I might have to get together a few people and run a sample combat so I can record it at the time.

Don't get them to switch - get them to try a short scenario say 1-2 gaming sessions worth of content.

Then let them decide if they like the different feel to the game.

That's how I introduced my D&D group to RMSS back in the day... we never looked back and it was because they wanted the change after being exposed to a superior system.

:) Off course.

But two of my players are what I call passive roleplaying gamers, they never would pick up a rpg book, and they have a hard time learning the rules, because they couldnt care less about systems... Well that would be a super reason to switch then, if they dont care right?
Well one might think so, but actually I can allready hear them moan about having to learn something new ;). "Now I had just figured out where to find my AC on my sheet! and now you moved it!" (happened for real a while ago) They HAVE tried 3.5 before, so Im focusing on learning them how to use FG2...
Read the manuals here on this site? NO WAY!
So... I'm just happy they want to play (and have the time), so... add that to it that one of those players are my WIFE! so I have to be diplomatic ;) :D.

I appreciate all your good advice and have taken them to heart!

Now lets have Dakadin have his Video thread for talk about his videos ;).

I noticed in your combat video you say that that in RM the GM doesn't get a drag line to measure distance. Is that true? I know in the 3.5/PF ruleset you can drag while holding control and it gives you the same measure line that PCs get. If that feature does NOT exist in RM.. it might be one that would be good to add for purposes of consistency between rulesets.

Another piece: When you drop the damage from an attack from the table to the tracker, is there any output to the chatwindow to to notify players what has happened? This would be good for healed damage as well both to notify the players and the GM that damage and healing has been done.

Another thought: It would be nice to be able to incorporate immunities so that effects dropped on 'immune' characters were ignored.

The GM can drag a pointer to get the distance but dragging tokens for movement doesn't give the movement line like it does for PC locked tokens. Sorry for the confusion.

The other two items are things that I have on my list to implement. Hopefully I can get them in for the next release.

Now lets have Dakadin have his Video thread for talk about his videos.

I wasn't worried about it. ;)

I talked to Blackfoot a bit more about this and he pointed out that the GM can hold down Ctrl while dragging a token to get the distance. I just tested it and it works great. Thanks for pointing that out Blackfoot!

Sorry about the resolution. It was my first and only attempt at making videos. I learned a lot from doing them so hopefully they would be better next time. The biggest problem with redoing them unfortunately is spare time which I rarely have.

Please let me know if you have any questions about how something works and I will do my best to answer them.

Welcome @Dakadin. I start with FG and I have some problems. Where can I find a table that traps exp for dmg and crit. I also have a problem creating characters. Namely, FG does not limit the amount of points in a given skill and I do not know if that is what it is supposed to be. Last case. Are you in the same position as yt asked to write / record guide how to correctly do the character. Regards.

Dakadin
September 27th, 2017, 04:21
Hi Szakal,

The ruleset doesn't automatically track experience. It still needs to be done manually. I usually just have the PCs level up at an appropriate time and don't worry about tracking experience. That is going to change in the campaign I am starting in a couple weeks though.

Ardem created a bit of an extension that he recently improved for tallying XP during play:

For a limited time you can see this in action here:
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/605938669?t=10633s @ 2:57:00+ of the stream.

I’ll try to create a permanent link for posterity vs my usual preference for Must See TV watching at scheduled times. :)

FRP extension with the XP tab included within if it doesn’t come stock with RMC, otherwise:
https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?15963-FRP-Extension

Ardem might have a lone module for adding just the XP tab itself - now with handy auto-sum feature when one already has a high tally of HP given or received and needing to add more.

Thanks for the contribution. I have highlighted these on our official wiki pages for Rolemaster Classic. You can see it here: https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGU/pages/4064717/Rolemaster+Classic+Ruleset

Please let me know if you would like any changes. If you submit any text and image content other than videos, please consider making a Google doc for each page in the wiki and then share that with us and we can include those pretty easily. If you make future edits, turn on change tracking and we can easily keep it up to date. If you use standard styles like Heading1, Heading2, body text, etc., then it pastes in with ease.

Great videos Wolfshield, thanks to these I learned some details I never would have found on my own. Just with one spell in the Advanced Combat Video I was surprised by the fumble as we always played as an unmodified roll (UM 01-02) means fumble, not if the total is <= 02 for elemental spells. Did I miss something?

Wolf_Shield
August 13th, 2020, 19:35
Hi. Thanks for the kind words! The spell failure was increased from 01-02 because it was cast a round too early so there is a +25 added to fumble for every round skipped. Hope that helps. Cheers!

The last in the current series is finished. This one was a mish-mash of tips, tricks and miscellaneous bits and bobs. Cheers!

Late reply, but just saw your follow on Twitch, Ken, thank you!
Hope you have been able to start playing again - or even GMing as the community can always use extra folks behind the FG RM screen. ;)

I have been following the Praise for Old Men campaign and thoroughly enjoying it! Extremely well done and entertaining!! Were those maps you guys were using just scanned out of Demons of the Burning Night or did you have to make each one?

Great question! Glad you’re enjoying the Campaign, Grimbold.

GM made all the maps in Campaign Cartographer II or III after looking at the ones that were usually line art maps/drawings in black and white!
He spent hours on them, he’d say (GM @Ancellus).
That said there are also maps that have old school Dundjinni artpack stuff that can still be scrounged around online, too.

There was a recent kickstarter of AUTO mapping software called Dungeon Alchemist where you choose the theme(Library, Tavern, etc.) drag-size your mouse and voilą instant dungeon rooms! Not only that, but the rooms then calculate what is “occluded” for active lighting TTRPG software to cast shadows and line of sight effects!

It's taken months but I've finally finished listening to the entire Praise of Old Men campaign as listed on Youtube. I was wonderfully enthralled by your stories and wanted to offer a hearty thanks for all the effort it took to record, edit, and publish. Well done chaps!

Awesome to hear and thanks again for the kudos and smile in your heart from the watch!

Wolfshield definitely set the bar high with his polished look for edits he made. As promised, I do have subsequent sessions recorded that I have yet to likewise publish, so the game doesn’t end there.
When I have the impetus to get it done, I’ll post the “lost files” of us continuing the game as often as we did until we recently ended the game from the usual ennui a campaign finds itself in(due to conflicting schedules and other Real Life issues).
That said, look for future interviews I’ll post looking back at the game with the players and GM that ran around in TKA’s Shadow World…

We promised to keep in touch so who know about a reprise in the future, but until then you can enjoy a few Rolemaster Campaigns by clicking the link in my Signature for my Twitch channel where I keep the recent games I play in for about a month or two.

Enjoy!

PS: I always love asking the questions:
1/ what was your favourite(top 3) episodes(memories) of the run?
2/ what did you not like?

That's very kind of you to say. Thanks! Stuart, the GM, really brought Shadow World to life!

PS: I always love asking the questions:
1/ what was your favourite(top 3) episodes(memories) of the run?
2/ what did you not like?

The encounters were so clever! Seeing a flash of silver from beneath the hooded body, lifting the cloth and finding nothing there, and then the description of how it rose up to attack was chilling! Meeting the stranded pirates was clever but breaking into the obelisk was exciting. And the corruption of Sylk to the demon who possessed her were all peak moments. But the little things also stood out - the constant requests for rewk, the mysterious leather hood...bag...thing, the way the party members took the time to know each other's strengths and weaknesses and would call each other over to help with things. Jumping on the back of a wyvern. Miscasting a portal spell. The "prison pocket" suggestion. I was sniggering to myself with my headphones on and my wife was looking at me like I was mental. And it went on for hours! Everyone who participated did a wonderful job.

There was very little (for me) not to like. Stuart is a very compelling story teller and almost everything seemed to just sort of fit the adventure. There are very few/none to be found recorded Rolemaster games out there so I'm very glad I found yours!

You so rock, Grimbold11 - cheers for the feedback.

For you and others’ viewing pleasure today:
Hi all,

If you enjoyed GM Ancellus’ The Praise of Old Men campaign(Kurgan, Rihat, Sharna, Sylke, Ugnan, and more) that we used to stream on my Twitch channel, and the awesomely edited Youtube vids of our early capers on Wolfshield’s channel, then come on out and join us in a kewl and interactive Post Campaign Q&A today in 6ish hours from now.

We’ll record it if you do miss it, but if you ever had a burning question or comment you’d like to have made while we were in our heyday, meet us and post it live on Twitch chat, or PM it to me here and I’ll ask when streaming today!

Thanx for all the love, laughs, and eyeballs throughout our story arcs.
See you, then!
