View Full Version : How do I unmask unsquare sections of mask?

Im trying to get back into FG GMing. Last time I used the software I was able to unmask sections differently, now it seems the only way to unmask is in square sections, I've tried all the typical shortcuts: shift, cntrl, alt, but that only converts the square section from unmask to mask mode. Is there anyway to unmask a circular or diamond shaped room?

In mask mode hold down shift to create a lasso to unhide irregular areas. Control re-maskes rectangular areas.

another cool trick is to use the fact that as you move the 'lasso' around to unmask a some of the map, a straight edge extends out to close the gap between the pointer and the original spot you first clicked the mouse button down. I use this 'feature' to create line of sight effects on the map, revealing just a fraction of the way around a corner, for example, to show what the characters can see from where they stand.

Yes, I use this all the time to draw a line of sight "triangle". The trick to remember is that the straight edge is drawn between the starting point when the left mouse button is held down and the point when it is released. I "free-form" unmask by drawing into the inside of the triangle edges.

It's a convoluted way of doing a line of sight (there will eventually be a better way I'm sure!) but it works, and it gets pretty quick after doing it a dozen times.

I do the same thing, though I also cheat by drawing a point arrow down one side of the sight "cone", running my mouse down the line, and then running the lasso around the room and then letting go to form the other side of the cone. It's quite fast once you do it a few times.
