I tried to convert these into tokens. At huge size they look great but at shrinked down to usable they look like indistinguishable blobs. Anyone have better results or should i just clip it down around the face.

I haven't tried yet, but had planned on looking at doing it.

If you have the time, look at each image and clip it down they way you think it looks best - some will be just the head, some head and shoulders, etc...

Are you just doing the images? Removing the background? Or, adding a border?

personally I use this:

Work real nice. Just choose your frame and drag pics to the area and zoom and move the pic with your mouse. Only thing to keep in mind (that I didnt with my first batch of tokens), in FG2 the chosen combatant in the combat tracker will have a WHITE circle around them. So if you use a thin round frame and the pic is with a white background you have a hard time spotting the token that is marked on the battlemap.

And yes they get small, and therefore I use only the head like Trenloe say.

I use token tool as well, and just crop it down to the head of the monster. If you try to squeeze in more detail, it just ends up, as you say, indistinguishable.
