I'm going to be starting a Rise of the Runelords campaign this week. This is the first Pathfinder Adventure Path, just recently updated as the Anniversary Edition. I've got three players, and need one more. Two of them are almost brand-new to the game, so Plays Well With Others is a must.

We'll play on Wednesdays, starting at 6 PM Central (11 PM GMT), using Skype for voice. If you're interested, check out the player's guide (https://paizo.com/products/btpy8tgl?Pathfinder-Adventure-Path-Rise-of-the-Runelords-Anniversary-Edition-Players-Guide) and come up with a character, background, and reason for being in Sandpoint as the Swallowtail Festival starts (probably based around your campaign trait). I'll make my decision from there.

Basically, anything from the SRD is allowed, but I may decide to nix something once I see it. One of the players is a ranger, and the other is a wizard, probably going Eldritch Knight. I don't know about the other one. This week we'll build the characters in FG before getting into the game.

If you have any questions, let me know. Below is what I sent the others.

We're starting with brand new characters. Directions for making them are here (https://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/gettingStarted.html). I'll give you 20 points to buy attributes with four players. Use the attached player's guide for tips on what you'll face. Warn me ahead of time if you plan on changing classes partway through. Talk to each other about what you're making, so there's not too much redundancy.

You'll get also two traits, found here (https://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/advancedNewRules.html#traits). These do things like give you bonuses to saves or skills because of your background. One of these must be a campaign trait from that section or from those listed on page 4 of the player's guide. The other is from any of the other categories.

You can make any choices you want for your character from the SRD (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/), or just stick with what's in the first link if you want to. This includes the unusual races (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races), so if you want to be an aasimar or an undine, go for it. No drow, though (they're always evil here), and I highly recommend against goblin.

We'll be playing with hero points (https://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/advancedNewRules.html#hero-points). Basically, you spend these points to let you do something awesome that you normally couldn't. You get points for things like leveling up, beating a hard fight, doing some good roleplaying, etc. Some bad guys will also have hero points.

My House Rules (so far):

No Evil or Chaotic Neutral characters.
Start with Max HP, then get half+1 at each level up (same as PFS). You can roll instead if you feel lucky, but my way works out better in the long run.
Monks get full Base Attack Bonus (like fighters). Flurry of Blows works like Two-Weapon Fighting.
Arcane spellcasters can cast spells in any armor they have proficiency in without worrying about spell failure, as long as they are not being rushed (basically, when you're not in combat). This will make the spell easier to spot or interrupt, since it takes longer to cast.
The skills Climb and Swim are combined under Athletics.
I'll allow some skill substitutions. For example, Survival can substitute for Knowledge (geography) at a -5 penalty, as long as the question is relevant to Survival. Another example is Knowledge (history) for Knowledge (nobility). You can never substitute skills when you're trying to learn about a monster.
You only provoke an attack of opportunity from a combat maneuver if you fail.
If you roll two 20s in a row for a critical hit, you get max damage.
You do not need Point Blank Shot to take Precise Shot, but you do for Improved Precise Shot.

Hello Gwaihir,

Attached are the two files that I mentioned for your consideration. The character may need some tweaking as it weas built under another Gm's guidelines, but the core mechanics are there.

In addition to the material in the SRD, there was some small tweaking in design based on this article:

This would probably be something I'd allow, although I confess I don't see the appeal. (You save a bunch of money on your weapon and you can do a few cool tricks with it? That's it?)

Unfortunately, this is moot, as my players have come up with an answer themselves and I will not be recruiting from these boards. Thanks for the interest and the little introduction to psionics; it's something I may want to look at in my next campaign.
