Well with the advent of 2.9 enforcing the policy of one license = one computer, I'm done with Fantasy Grounds. Its a bad policy and always has been. I want to be able to build my stuff on my multi-monitor home system and still run them at the table with my laptop. This tool no longer does that.
I appreciate all the work folks have put into this. Its a nice tool with lots of potential. It just no longer meets my needs. Hangouts are doing a better job of on-line and I'll just have to find a new tool for face to face.
Best of luck,

Pikup,
I'm confused by your statements. The enforcement policy for v2.9 is no different than it was previously. We have always been open the GMs and developers building content on one machine, and running the game for live sessions on another.
Perhaps you can give me more information on the issue you are having?
Thanks,

With the update to 2.9 I can only install my full license on one machine. I updated my laptop first since that's what I was working on at the time. When I went to update my desktop it now shows as an unregistered copy (without the ability to create campaigns etc) and says my license key is invalid when I try to update it.
And I understand what I have been doing in the past (loading on two machines, one desktop one laptop) has always been "against the rules". Tools like HeroLabs allow for a secondary install for just this purpose. They even allow a low cost ($10) option to buy additional secondary licenses.
I appreciate the need to limit piracy of software especially for a niche product like a VTT, but I think its important the Smiteworks understands that policies like this also cost them customers. They have my money and I have received good value for the software in the past so no harm no foul. Its just disappointing to not be able to continue with the product. Its a nice tool with a great community. Its just not worth it to me to buy two copies because I use a laptop.

I'll let Moon_wizard give the official answer, but I've been developing on my laptop and running my game on my desktop for years now, and version 2.9 hasn't changed a thing for me. Perhaps the issue you are seeing stems from a different issue ?

Hmm, this is odd. I have updated all my development and production systems to v2.9 with no issues.
I too **share** a license between my desktop and mobile development systems but have not experienced the problem described in the OP.
Perhaps try removing the FGII install and re-installing from scratch on the 2nd system?

For testing, I have uninstalled FGII from all my systems, and reinstalled using my ultimate license. Thats a total of 6 PCs all running the same license.... As a side note and something I think moon and doug should look into, it will let me run all of them at the same time as well, I just cant connect between them.... But if I am not mistaken the ultimate needs a connection to the net, so you might want to limit how many can run at the same time with the same key... just an idea tho.

I have Ultimate FG installed on laptop and desktop. I was able to update both within 15 minutes of each other with no issues on Friday evening... able to use both FWIW.

Pikup,
I believe that your key might be incorrect on the machine that downgraded. One of the things we did with v2.9 is to automatically downgrade to the free version if the full/ultimate key was not in our order history database. The fact that one machine updated without issues leads me to believe that the key is different on the other machine.

The license keys on the two machines are identical. I copied and pasted them from the same document. (And just reconfirmed they are identical.) I did a uninstall/re-install on the desktop no dice. I was able to put my unallocated lite licenses on the desktop and that worked fine, but really does not solve the problem. The only difference between the machines is the desktop is Vista and the laptop is Win7. I have no idea how my systems are the special snowflake. But if you folks say its still just stated and not enforced (two installs) I'll keep trying to find a way to make it work.
I've had the license forever and what I'm using on the laptop matches my records back to 2009. (Its was a drivethrurpg purchase.) And its the key that worked fine prior to the 2.9 upgrade.

Pikup,
If there is some unanticipated consequence of our recent upgrade that caused this issue for you, please rest assured that we will identify and fix it. As moon_wizard states, we have no intention of enforcing a policy which you would have been rightfully upset by. We try our best to honor all past purchases and community users, even those who joined prior to the new ownership or who purchased through Digital Adventures. Our community is one of our most prized assets and we would hate to lose anyone. Moon and I are looking into the possibility that license checks for RPGNow purchases are working differently than those from the FG Store.

Pikup,
Can you send a copy of your license key to
[email protected], and remind me of this thread?
I need to investigate why this would be failing. I run the same scenario you do on my home machine. However, I can't look up your key, since it is not linked to your forum account (due to external site purchase).
Thanks,
