Savage Worlds- The Family (Modern Day Mafia RPG)

I am looking to run a modern day mob game set in New Jersey. The characters would be like the characters you find in TV shows like The Sopranos or in movies like Casino or Goodfellas.

I would like to have at least 4 players in order to start the game. If you are interested please let me know

Hmm. I've only ever played one Savage worlds game using the deadlands world and books. I liked the dice system and assume this will be rather different but still like to give Savage worlds another go, was really fun last time.

Deadlands just has different colour re-roll chips. The dice mechanics are all core, fast, fun and furious Savage Worlds !

Ok. I think I got an idea for a character. 15 year old girl that entered the Family through her father needing to pay off debt, she has a lot to prove and is mostly considered expendable so far. She's got a bubbly attitude and loves to talk to an annoying point but She also loves to tinker and stuff. I'm thinking more about her background too, like she was born with a twin brother and he was disfigured and her father always blamed her for it without ever saying anything, punishing her more than him. She would end up sneaking out and stuff because of it and got into theft and other stuff. She met an older guy that was into making stuff and had a crush on him, probably as a replacement for her father, but he got her into Science and making stuff and even learned more about picking locks and such.

Thinking of Taking Mad science, but she thinks its perfectly normal science and rogue like character.

Basically, I want a sort of trashy jersey version of a "Master of Disguise" with access to all kinds of cover identities. Hilarity ensues when the party needs to sneak in somewhere, but all the female costumes are just a little too risque.

I will say no to both. No to Mad Science and Arcane Background doesn't make sense for this setting. I am using the Explorers edition to run this game, since they don't have the deluxe edition rules ready for Fantasy Grounds yet. Just keep that in mind.

yeah that was pretty helpful. I did not know about the no theft from other people thing, though it makes sense seeing as the Mafia is meant to protect against theft and you'd be stealing from some other person's turf most likely. But Neki's background was that she was a thief before entering the Mafia, knowing lot of the fencers and the tricks of the trade to help her as an enforcer. I did not really put any of the Mafia parts in my background, I assumed we were new to the Mafia and our first mission would be initiation or something maybe.

yeah I just watched Goodfellas, and read over the Wiki link you gave. I thought it was something else that was bugging you not just that it was a female character. Heh. I was wracking my brain over trying to figure out what was wrong, don't matter what gender my character is.

I was on the waiting list for a class I need to take and I scheduled the game because it didn't look like I was going to get in. And lo and behold I got in.

I've put together a tentative character I can run by you any time you'd like. I'm familiar with Savage Worlds, but haven't played for a while. I've been refreshing myself on the rules. I'm less familiar with the Mafia, but I've seen Godfather, Goodfellas, and so on.

What happened was that I had the block set correct, however it is assigned to a specific computer IP address.

And my router decided to give my computer a different ip address. So a quick IPCONFIG /all gave me the new 3 numbers in the last octet of my ip address, changed it on my router and it works

So did we start the game off with our inside cop asking to meet Frank at the Cafe? tells him about the hit and we do some shopping. We plan and take out the target by having Frank Snip him from a roof, the plan works out fine except for a little 10 year old girl that sees Frank running down the fire Escape, but she's convinced he was a fireman, We tell the cop its all done, everyone splits up and goes home. Tommy talks to a Lawyer. We get a call from the Cop who tells us where the car is and go to pick it up. bring it back to Tony and notice FBI people outside his place. Everyone goes home and stays out of trouble, FBI agent visits Frank while he fixes his sink, Tommy talks with his lawyer friend and Allos goes to the Bars to pick up chicks. Allos causes some trouble by hitting on the girls from the rival gang and acting innocent, Frank showing up in the middle of it and getting the other family to think Frank and Allos are insane because they dont know whats going on. The Cop asks to meet Frank and his whole gang at an Abandoned warehouse. the group goes over there and Allos does some recon before Calling Frank in to meet with her. She informs the group that the investigation is pointing towards an inside job for some reason and that the group might want to lay low. Which is confirmed by mostly everyone in the world, fortune cookies and blimps in the sky included.

No, the main book is all you need (Either explorers edition or Deluxe or both) and a little knowledge of the Mafia (but that isn't really needed but helpful).

We need to find a time and day works for everyone. I was thinking of running the game on Tuesday nights. I would be open to playing on another night if it works for people. I am ok, for example for running it on Friday to get more game time in.

The basic character creation guidelines are simple: Create a character who is a mafia/criminal. The characters start out as novice and will start as "associates" in the modern day mob family. They aren't made men yet, they are more the errand boys but the more the characters are trusted, the better the jobs will get.

The only days I cannot play are Mondays and Wednesdays. So if there is a better day please let me know.

Well, if we simply eliminate days that cannot be played... Here's what I have gathered from reading this thread, and what I know about my own schedule:

Geek: Not Mon or Wed
Blackdove: Not Tues
Me: Not Wed, Sat or Sun
enygma: Not Sun

I don't know about the other people involved, so I can't comment, but it looks like the only days we'd be able to play would be Thursday or Friday, and then only in the evening.

Friday works for me, but as I said earlier, only after about 4:30 pm EST, cause I have class most of the day.

Every other Thursday would work for me. Friday's would normally work, but the nature of Friday you never know what 'events' might be going on even if you make the game a priority (as it should be if signed up).

So depending on the frequency I would say Thursday's or go with Friday's if the campaign is able to adjust with different players showing up each session.

It's looking like Friday is going to be the day because I may be playing a game on Thursday. I may be able to do it on Thursday but Friday sounds like the better day and we can go longer if need be to get more gaming in.

Actually Friday doesn't work for Varnfury as well. So it looks like Thursday is going to be the day if this game is going to happen.

Does that work for anyone/everyone?
