Integrated IRC in Fantasy Grounds would be great because some I know rp & coordinate games via IRC already. Maybe as another chat mode.

Most people use the FGII IRC channel (https://fg2.rpg-vault.net/) for that :)

well, I guess that sorta works :p but what if a rp group already has their own channel and wants to ease getting folks there? IMO anything that makes it simpler to get folks together on their own terms and roleplay is great. What if FG had lists of rp chans for various rulesets and people need only click a few times to find players of their favorite system.
I mean, look at https://irc.netsplit.de/chat/roleplaying.php or https://irc.netsplit.de/chat/roleplay.php
Undernet has #ad&d #d&d #rifts #s-run DarkMyst has many, DynastyNet, Sorcerynet, Dalnet too.

I have suggested putting a limited chat client into the launcher before, and still think that it would be a great idea. But I think adding a full blown IRC client is a bit less than productive. Basically what is needed is a global chat room in the launcher window that would make recruiting players much simpler.

The reason something like this would be useful is that MANY FGII users never/rarely check the forums, and thus they can be considered to be out of the potential pool of players. With a global chat room in the launcher you could add the vast majority of these people back to the player pool.

The next advantage is that since it would have to connect to the global server for it to function, a key check process could then be passed on connect that would limit pirate usability of the application. I don't pretend that it would 100% solve any piracy issues, but it would absolutely put a jam into the works for them.
