Are there any pre-made characters available for download? (Perhaps a group of them, one character of each common class?

Not that I am aware of Johnnyr.

However if you are using 3.E (including Pathfinder) or 4E you can use the tool in this thread (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15025) to import characters from PCGen, HeroLab and DDI PC tools.
