My group has issues getting together due to geographic restrictions. We have been looking for a virtual table top for a while and this one seems nice. I have been fooling around with the demo for several hours in the last 2 days and while I like it I am finding it less than intuitive. I have watched numerous videos both on the site and user made as well as reading through the library on 4E and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong to make things function.

I get the flow of inputting information but most videos I have watched seem to make assumptions and skip over things such as the whole, now I have the the campaign ready, how do I get them on the board and ready for combat and just go to a screen where everything is laid out and initiative is already rolled and things are getting going.

Is the demo gimped to the point that it cannot be used? I'm finding most of the NPCs have no tokens and if they have no tokens I can't get them on the map? I can add them to the combat tracker but any rolls I make seem to have no effect other than it will roll for me, it will say initiative roll for instance but not add it to the tracker.

I tried reusing PC tokens on NPCs since the demo doesn't seem to have any, I can then get them added to the board, do attack rolls vs said NPC but it doesn't seem to resolve properly, damage isn't subtracted etc although it will say the player is attacking it doesn't indicate hit/miss etc.

I am missing something and for the life of me cannot figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated

I'm not that familiar with the demo, so not sure what is restricted. Plus, I'm not sure what ruleset you are using?

To give you some tokens, go to the module activation screen ("Modules" book icon in the top right) and open the "Latter Tokens" module. This will give you some basic tokens in the tokens folder (bottom right of the screen).

When you have creatures on the combat tracker (CT), drag and drop letter tokens to the blank token area on their CT entry (the circle to the left of the name), then drag that token onto your map - now the creature stats in the CT will be linked to a token.

Also, as a DM, you need to target from the CT before you make attack rolls etc. Click the cross-hairs icon at the top of the CT to expand on the create and drag the cross-haris icon on the right of the target area onto the creature entry in the CT that you want to target. Then attack rolls, damage etc will be applied against that creature.

Hope this answers your question...

Ill give it a try. I couldn't drag anything from the tracker to the map because theres no icons with the default NPCs so the best I could do is add them to the tracker but thats it. I couldn't get initiative rolled either, the option to have it auto rolled when added to the tracker isn't working and manually rolling seems to have no effect either.

However even when adding them (after reusing PC tokens) I still have issues making combat decisions stick, not just from the DM POV but the PC as well, it says attack roll vs ac and lists the target but says no result on hit or miss it just totals my roll, damage rolls are done but they dont subtract the HP in tracker. I just don't know if its me doing something wrong vs something with the demo and for obvious reasons I don't want to buy just to find out :P

I will try selecting DM targets from the CT and see how it works.

I plan on using 4E, I downloaded the demo 4E campaign from the download section and that is what I am testing with. I have figured out almost everything but the whole combat part I'm missing some finer points, once I get that figured out I think I will be comfortable purchasing this for my group

EDIT: There are no modules in the demo

I'm no longer in front of my pc, so can't check exact naming, but there should be an option (under "options") to display the result of rolls?

Are there any tokens in the token bags?

I think I sorted out the issue with the results of the roll and targetting

No tokens in the bag on the 4E demo, if I do the 3.5E demo I can activate a module however and get tokens and the modules NPCs have tokens so I used them to put on the map as opposed to the default NPCs which do not have tokens. I think I have most of it figured out at this point, or at least I feel a bit more confident in suggesting we move forward with purchase and learn the rest through trial and error
