So I recently bought the full license and want to try out running my FG2 and am having issues. I watched the 4E DM tutorial and to me it seemed the guy had access to premade maps that he easily brought from modules to his library and therefore the new campaign. I have parses of most 4E books including Dungeon Delves but no maps...same with Dungeon magazines. Now I have no extra money to spend and I just want to run some simple stuff to get me used to FG2. Am I missing something? Are there places to get adventures, pre-made maps and so on? Help a brudder out...lol...Thanks guys/gals

Whilst FGII is bundled with a D&D 4E ruleset; the ruleset simply implements the mechanics of the D&D 4E game along with providing 4E based character sheets.

The data for 4E must be parsed in by each DM; mainly because Wizards has not officially licensed the 4E FGII ruleset. For images, if you have an active DDI subsscription, you can download .jpg versions of most of the published 4E material from the Art Galleries (https://www.wizards.com/DnD/Archive.aspx?category=newsresources&subcategory=ArtGalleries) and the Map Galleries (https://www.wizards.com/DnD/Archive.aspx?category=newsresources&subcategory=MapGalleries).

I also have reproduced some 4E maps, you can grab mine from https://4emaps.blogspot.com/.

Finally, I recently converted two XRP 4E Lands of Darkness modules, they come complete with ready to run Encounters, tokens and Maps. More info here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/store/product.xcp?id=XRP8101FG2) and here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/store/product.xcp?id=XRP8102FG2).

First, thank you for replying...now I went to yer blog but saw no download so I do I grab and use the maps? Second...so unless I am a DDI member I have no access to parses for adventurers or maps? Hmmm..I so want to DM but my 48 year old brain is having a hard time understanding all this...

Just left-click each image to open the full size version in a new tab/window. Then right click each image and select Save As. Then save the .jpg to the images folder of your campaign.

Having a DDI subscription will give you access to Wizards online resources including the Compendium database which you can leverage with the 4EParser to scrape and parse data for your modules. Without DDI you will need PDF or scanned versions of the hardbook rulebooks and you will have to manually cut n paste the data into text files for parsing with the 4EParser.

Having DDI is not technically essential but having it certainly speeds up the creation of your own modules.

There are plenty of free maps on the web as well including the WotC site in their old Map a Week archive here: https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/mw

Pyro's online map making tool is also easy to use and fast. You can probably make the map you want before you could search through all the maps in the Map a week archive. There is a thread on the tool here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14877

There is a pretty big learning curve for a lot of this stuff.
hang in there, it does get easier

When I started using FGII last spring, a few experienced guys signed up for my game and really showed me how to use the software.

Parsing the DDI stuff does help when you are first starting out with FGII, (mainly for the character creator) but hand entering powers and monsters really gives you a feel for how the 4e system works in the confines of FGII.

If you want to just kick the software around send me a PM, I would be happy to help you out as much as I can.

Here is my rendition of the Kolbold hall map: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/33839348/kobold%20hall.jpg

it is a 100px = 5' square

Lots of people don't like the 4e system, but I enjoy it, the more people running it the better.

If you just want to give FG a go - have a look at the A Tale of Dinor example campaign - which may have been installed when you installed Fantasy Grounds.

If it wasn't it is available for download from the "Downloads" link at the top of this page, look in the "Demo Version" section of that page. This download gives you the example campaign in both 3.5E and 4E rulesets.
