View Full Version : Using FGII without a Ruleset

Not sure this is the right place to post this but I was wondering if anyone has used FG to play any games without a ruleset? The reason I ask is I have come to the realization that there is virtually nil chance of there ever being a ruleset for HarnMaster but I would still like to run a game. I thought about using the image capability in FG for sharing the combat charts so they can at least be referenced during the game but figure it would really clutter things up on screen.

Obviously, without a ruleset everything would need to be managed and tracked manually but I was curious if anyone ever went to this length to get a game on and if so what other obstacles did you encounter?

For the record, XML skills are not in my immediate future and will not likely ever be. I have also thought about paying someone to put together enough stuff (characters sheet and maybe combat tracker) to relieve some of the manual bookkeeping but figure you need to be familiar with the system to really be able to take something like that on and the HarnMaster fan base is none too large.

maybe this thread/member could help you with the ruleset??
(at least with your idea in the last paragraph)

The foundations core ruleset is probably worth a look at : https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15391

Sharing charts as images is not a bad idea - esp. as with the latest rulesets, players can close and open shared images as they choose.

i think one of the coolest things about rpg'ing is that there are so many rulesets and so many genre's available - there is something for - i dare say - everyones tastes.
linux is a lot like that. people collaborate on a project and then at some point someone wants to go in a new direction and you have two projects.
whilst both projects usually have merit they are now both running on half steam and many run out of steam without a big enough core group driving them.
so many cool ideas do get aired - but few realise their full potential.
its wonderful and darn frustrating at the same time!
