Dunno if any of you read this:

Giant comet almost obliterated all human life in 1883 (https://dvice.com/archives/2011/10/giant-comet-alm.php)

But it got me thinking... hmmm... I have an old west game I'm prepping set in 1880... what if only some of those fragments wiped out the centers of civilization... steam apocolypse!

Figures - already been done. Spotted this in the talkback to an article basically calling the above article a very unlikely scenerio: "Anyway, the mere possibility of it gave me some chills. It reminded me of the alternate world steampunk novel 'The Lancers of Peshawar', in which a meteor shower anihilates North America, Europe and Russia in 1878. The survivors of England escape to India, South Africa and Australia to rebuild the Empire."

So if anyone's into that kind of thing, maybe it's a good read?
