View Full Version : Two Monitor Use?

OK, I took out an eighth mortgage on my house and bought a second monitor.
Is there a way to get FG to be stretched across both screens, so I could perhaps have chat and a map on the left monitor and the combat tracker and such on the right?

Or is the purpose of two monitors simply so I can play FG on monitor two and still surf for porn on monitor one?

I think if you run it in windowed mode you can stretch it across two monitors. Pretty sure I alot of people have been doing that.

I have 2 monitors and stretch Fantasy Grounds across both - note, don't play in Maximised mode as this will be on only one monitor. Works really well.

I run Windows 7 and the setting to use is "Mulitiple Displays" -> "Extend these displays" in the "Adjust Resolution" window.

Talen has a screenshot of a game running across 2 monitors here. (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15458) At least, I'm guessing he has 2 monitors - or one VERY wide one! ;)

Yes, Iceman. That is how it works. Windowed mode.

Can I run DM mode one one monitor (my laptop) and a player map on my 2nd monitor (my TV at the game table)?

Welcome to FG.

Yes, you can do that.

Also.. if you have two screens, its possible with mirroring apps like Airplay (on Mac to use for Apple TV), and Air Parrot (on Windows to use Airplay on Apple TV, or use Chromecast to any device supporting Chromecast such as a Amazon TV or Roku)to have a separate players copy running on the second screen and then use the mirroring app to throw the players app window across wireless to a big Screen HDTV for a group around a table. That might allow for easier shared viewing by the group of their Character sheets and Maps.

I do it all the time running FG in windowed mode

Thanks. My group still wants to use pen and paper and I like the fog of war and tokens moving around the map, so that's why I want to do two screens. They aren't ready to give up physical copies yet.

I use two monitors when I GM and got slightly annoyed resizing FG everytime I start it up.
I finally found a small program that gives me a shortcut to resize FG instantly to a custom resolution.

Works perfectly and just cuts out the mild annoyance that this function isn't built into Win10

FG remembers what size it was when it closes and reopens in that size. If you stretch across two monitors you need to set up Windows so that both monitors display the same thing (Choose 'Extend these displays' from the Settings>System>Display>Multiple Displays) otherwise FG will revert to the main monitor only.

I have it set up the way you describe it, doesn't work for me for some reason.
Always starts up as a smallish window in the middle of my main screen
It has worked for me in Win7 like this before, but for some reason no longer does in Win10

Ah, the vicissitudes of operating systems :)

I'm still baffled that this feature got removed... Well, using a program/hotkey is a good enough workaround; and FG instantly jumping to the correct size via keypress makes unreasonably happy :D

It didn't get removed, it's still there - saving the desktop size across multiple monitors works fine for me in Windows 10 with FG v3.3.7. It maybe that FantasyGrounds.exe is unable to store the position data - try running FG as Administrator (right-click on the startup link and select "Run as Administrator" and see if this results in the position information being stored.

IF Win 10 is not saving Window size and position for you, check out this thread on teh MS support forums; https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-start/windows-10-doesnt-save-window-position/3492a49b-fa93-4038-ba80-ef65883ccc10

Thanks for the troubleshooting help, SFC; and the other things in that thread, brings up nothing, and admin doesn't change the behaviour either.
Sometimes Windows just decides to be weird *shrug*

How do I open a players' copy on the same computer? Mine just keeps going to my DM one.

With two monitors the best way is to extend FG and use Turbotop. this little software put every application you want on top of FG. In this picture you can see Discord, WMP and Syrinscape on top of FG, all fully usable... 29031

2 monitors is what I do all the time, just run it windowed and stretch across the screens :)

that way I have lots of space and even a little area for syrenscape running ( although with DOE that is hardly needed anymore )
