A map from my virtual DnD game. What we have here is the top level of an old mine which has been partially converted into some prison cells. The entrance is to the east, down the stairs. The western portion has partially collapsed into the lower levels, which are now only accessible by crossing a wooden bridge which spans the pit and going through that locked gate to the NW.

The bulk of the layout was done with Tiamat tile maps. I then did some post-production photoshop work to fill in the areas around the map and provide some depth.

I'm also planning on using DrZeuss' new enhanced mapping function to use tokens to replace the currently intact bridge with broken sections during the big fight.

Nice, I'm a big fan of SkeletonKey map tiles.

I'm a big fan of Skeleton Key as well. Here is a map I made recently from their tiles:

Thats a good swamp! I may have to steal it. No pink flowers though! They're far too pretty for my taste.

Some beautiful work there! I'm not familiar with the Tiamat/Skeleton Key tile sets. Are they available somewhere? I've got several others, but haven't been able to build them into anything decent-looking, to date.

cheers!

Tiamat is an online Tile Mapper that uses the Skeleton Key Games tiles. It doesn't cost anything to just mess around and play with the tiles. Link: https://www.rpgobjects.com/tiamat/index.php

Skeleton Key sells a lot of tile sets which can be used in face to face game or in FG. Here is a link: https://www.rpgnow.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=80&language=en&filters=0_0_0_0

When you set up a map with the Tiamat mapper, you have access to all the Skeleton Key maps. Then when you get an arrangement that you like you can simply buy and export the tiles you need. It's a pretty nice system.

Looks pretty nice! :)

How would people who've used this compare it with Pyro's excellent Dungeon Painter (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14877) ?

It's different - to a certain extent you are compairing apples to oranges - and while they might both taste good they approach the problem from exactly opposite directions. With tiles you have less customization but typically they are faster to put togeather *if* you can find the tials.

So specifically, Dungeon Painter is probably a better tool if you need to mirror a specific layout. It also would tend to work better in a closed in environment like a dungeon because you can just "paint" the passages and rooms.

I think tiles work better outdoors, in town landscapes and inside of buildings because that type of thing tends to be fiddly and hard to paint and make it look good without a very large amount of effort or talent. In other words tiles work better where your players expect a landscape to have certain details just because of the location - when tends to be at locations close to what you would find in the "real" world.
