View Full Version : Half damage on a save?

Just updated to 2.8 and the new 3.5 ruleset. So far, it has been impressive.

I have a question, though. I've figured out how to have a character target multiple NPC's and cast a spell (fireball) on them. They automatically attempt reflex saves, which is nice. The problem comes when I try to apply damage. One NPC made his save, while the others did not, but it applied full damage to all of them. Is there any way to specify half damage if the save is made?

You could right click the damage value and select 1/2, then hold ctrl while dragging it to the NPC that saved to "heal" half of the damage.

Alternatively, have the player not roll damage until you've announced who saved and then apply for the one that saved manually.

There might be a more automatic method that I'm not aware of.

Currently, there is no automatic way to apply different damage to multiple targets. It's a feature that I hadn't figured out for 4E (with criticals) either, though it's on the wish list for both.

The way we do it in my games is that the player deselects the creatures who saved, and rolls regular damage. The GM can then right click on the roll, select half, and drop onto the remaining creatures.

Another option is to have the player use the new modifier box and select the Half Damage button, then make a second damage roll for just the ones who saved.

Those are both decent workarounds, thanks.

An option to automatically de-target creatures that make their save might be worthwhile. You can already specify de-targeting on a miss, so maybe you could recycle some of that code.

Thanks for the help.
