What is the best program to create maps of dungeons? Payment is also good. Important is the ratio final result/ease of use. Mac/Windows/Linux/iPad indifferent. I found Battle Map for iPad ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sXgHT7_e-A ), but I did not understand if as possible then export a final image of the entire map for use with FG. I tried Dunjinni, Dungeons Crafter e Dungeons Designe3, but I do not like. The best thing would be something like this https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061121t (although with unofficial tiles) but more complete.

I did a map creator like the WotC tile mapper a long time ago. Simplistic, but I was only starting to learn CSS at the time. Of course, no way to export it...

A couple free options would be MS Paint, The Gimp and Inkscape. Unfortunately, you would have to create your own tiles or "strip" them from existing ones.

Gimp is good

there is a little learning curve, but once you get the hang of it it is easy.

You might try Pymapper. It's an out grow of the old WotC Tilemapper. It's drag and drop and exports maps and has a library of map tiles you can download. You can add your own tile images as well. https://pymapper.com/

Fantastic! This is exactly what I wanted. Thank you very much.

You should give Dungeonographer a try. It has a free version, allows you to dictate important things like the pixel size of squares, has decent terrain choices, and provides good export options.

Runs on a mac, but not the iPad.

The only way to get Battle Map on the iPad to be useful is if you take screen shots (press both buttons on iPad at the same time) of your maps without a grid and then place the FG grid over the top of them, starting with a doorway to get decent placement.

I use Campaign Cartographer with various add-ons, but this is probably over the top for most.

Like Valarian, I use Campaign Cartographer. It has some very powerful features and is capable of producing beautiful maps but is generally considered to have a steep learning curve.

If you are familiar with photo editing software such as Photoshop, GIMP, PaintShopPro etc or are at least comfortable with the concept of layers it shouldn't be to difficult to grasp.
