View Full Version : Forum Problem

I have both Safari (5.0.5) and IE (9.0.8112.something) installed on my Windows 7 64-bit machine, and Safari is set to be my default browser, but I sometimes use IE (which is why both are installed).

When I visit the forum using IE and click 'Mark all forums read', it seems to have no effect (it returns me to the forum top level, but doesn't mark the threads as read). If I click 'Mark all forums read' from Safari, it *does* do what it says on the tin.

Furthermore, if forums are marked as read from within Safari, they are also marked as read in IE.

Is this expected behaviour?

I don't think Doug or I have touched the forums since we took over, so it's probably an old bug with the forum software.

We've been hesitant to upgrade the software, since we have so much good content in the forums and didn't want to risk data loss or down time.

Yep, I think it is a client-side problem anyway: my bad for wanting to run two browsers in parallel. Just a shame that IE has turned into such a dog that I even needed to look elsewhere ;)

I'm using IE 7.0.5730.(too long to remember), and the 'mark all forums read' seem to work fine for me.

I've changed IE back to being my default browser and it still doesn't mark forums as read :(

Ditto, just replace with Opera and Chrome. :)

Fair-enough-ski, I just tought that working with M$ latest browser might also be a reasonable thing ;)

I tried with IE myself just now, (Win7 64/latest IE) and noticed the same thing. So I guess it's safe to blame M$. ;)

or you could blame the forum software?

It seems to be a known incompatibility between IE9 and vBulletin, which should be resolved by turning on Compatibility View.

I lied, Compatibility View doesn't fix it.

Seems to be working now (last three times worked on IE9), so either someone somewhere fixed something, or I'm having a run of unusually good luck...

Bleh, spoke too soon. Still a problem for me, so I guess I'll have to go back to using Safari for reading these forums.
