I don't have a lot of time to write about this, but I can't recommend RaidCall enough.

It's free Ventrilo, remotely hosted, works even better than GSC in my opinion. Has volume normalization too! I'll post more later but I just wanted to let people know about it that haven't tried it yet.

My group has tried Skype, but the results are too mixed with the calls. We have recently been using Mumble, but if everyone doesn't have headphones and push-to-talk (which is hell for the DM), it is a nightmare.

Have been using Vent for 4 years with WoW, but hosting plans for it are a bit steep. I will check this out, thanks.

I've found you can get a 10 man Vent or TeamSpeak dedicated server for about 3 bucks a month or about 25ish a year if you pay yearly. The RaidCall also looks promising.

Skroo pointed out that RaidCall sure looks like a frontend for Ventrilo or something. All the same connect sounds and stuff.
