Is there a way for a player in FGII to associate a piece of art with his character? So that if someone clicks on his dude, they'll see something larger than a portrait or a token?

No, players don't normally have control of images other than their PC's portrait.

You could use something like the code to put the portrait on to the character sheet. It'd be the same picture, but you can get it to show a little larger by putting a larger portrait icon in to the code.

If you are really fancy, couldn't you have a portrait "tab" on the character sheet for a full-sized image? (as long as it conforms to resolution of the char sheet)

One thing to watch is that giving the player control of uploading images could cause unexpected network overhead from large file transfers. For example, if they decide to drop in a 12 megapixel picture of themselves in costume.
