Has anyone tried using internet links via MSN / Skype style programmes, to enhance game play?

Does it break the immersion, encourage the players to "wander off", or create any other negative aspects?

I think it can work - you can't see if players are browsing during play anyway. In a modern game using google maps can be quite useful.

When I was playing Dark Matter (Alternity and D20 versions) there was an amazing site called osirs.net.

It was the Hoffmann Institute mainframe system people could log on find case notes and even send in character emails.

I think the site is long gone but man it added so much to the game!

I'll be trying it out, and I'll let you know... :)
