I'm just starting out with FG2 and was wondering if folks here had good recommendations for tokens. I need a nice array of PC tokens and the basic low level monstre stuff (goblins, kobolds, orcs, etc.). I see the packs for sale here, but there aren't any samples and no links to see what they look like. I searched RPG Now and saw a few packs as well.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

I personally recommend Devin Night's free token packs if you like the top-down view for VTT.

He is also planning on opening a token store that hopefully will come soon where you can purchase more specialised tokens.

I have a script for the DDM Minis from WotC (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12165). Use the version 5 Beta, it is stable.

I've tried several sets of tokens, including higher resolution ones, but really I just use the standard alphabetical tokens. Once they are tied to the combat tracker labels pop up when you or the players mouse over them, and you can quickly drop in random encounters without wondering if you have that monster's token or rifling through several token bags to find one. While they do map a good map standout, I think they just serve as a distraction to the greater game. Its just my opinion, of course, but let your adjectives and nouns be the star and not token artwork. We've been having discussions on minimalist mapmaking as well.

Now if you love tokens, by all means go for it. I'm just saying don't feel that you HAVE to get specialty tokens to make FG work.

I usually use the 4e Letter Tokens but for simplicity, the Sword and Sorcery tokens are quite simple and nice: A semi-transparent black disk with the full monster name on it. It won't work for some of the 4e specific monster names for the basic monsters, it's fine.

I like the Fiery Dragon Tokens that are sold in the store. I actually used them before Smiteworks got a license deal with Smiteworks.

They are portrait style tokens not top down. You can download a free set of tokens for H1 Keep on the Shadowfell (the name of the pack is slightly different so WoTC wouldn't bother him). The pack has a fair amount of low level monsters as H1 is a 1st-3rd level module: https://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=56039

I'd recommend you looking at Wild-fur's tokens. They are damn good and he is about to release a general critter pack.
