View Full Version : New player looking for european based players

Hi people!

I have owned the three core rulebooks for ADnD 2nd edition for quite a few years now, but I never got enough people together willing to play, so they effectively sat on the shelf gathering dust.

Now with the internet and programs like Fantasy Grounds it's much more easy to hook up with people

Are there any players still using the 2nd edition rules who have a spot in their group for a newbie, perhaps?

Also I am planning on getting started with the 4th edition. The pace of the game seems to suit me very well. The emphasis on roleplaying elements again instead of intricate detailed rules (and their debates) appeals to me very much. But as always; there's no point in getting the books if you won't play!

One thing I should note is that due to my job I won't be able to stick to a specific day or evening to play. This will have to be random.

Here's to new friends!

Hi Yskonyn

I know where your coming from with irregular play times it's plagued me for ages. I don't GM D&D, however if your interested in trying out Savage Worlds, BRP or CoC, give me a shout.

Savage Worlds (among other games) (https://www.peginc.com/)

Savage Worlds Test Drive Rules (https://www.peginc.com/Downloads/SWEX/TD06.pdf)

BTW Murgh - Totally interested in trying out Savage Worlds. Any genre/world is fine, I am more interested in the mechanics and how they differ from other games.

Hi!

I run a D&D game using Castles & Crusades. It's a rules-lite, creativity-heavy game.

I've created a page for newcomers here:

Actually I would be interested in both; Savage Worlds and Castles and Crusades!
Do I need to buy the rulesets if I want to join any of your games or are these packs only needed for the DMs?

Another question: Is Castles and Crusades an official expansion module for DnD play?

And lastly: Is Savage Worlds just the name of the gamesystem? And several different gamesettings are featured in this from Sci-Fi, Steampunk, fantasy, etc?

Only the GM needs the ruleset to play a game in FG.

Yes Savage Worlds is the system with many settings (https://savagepedia.wikispaces.com/Savage+Settings). Any particular setting you'd be interested in?

I'll let someone else field the question on C&C.

It's not necessary to buy the ruleset to play. The GM does that.

C&C is it's own d20-based game that attempts to evoke the feel of pre-3e versions. All that most of my players need are the class descriptions I provide, an overview of the combat and spell sating rules and their imagination.

The last three hour session we had I never needed to consult the rules. It's not that kind of game.

You're welcome to drop in a session and watch us play. Just need to give me some notice.

Nope, only if you want to DM them....

Another question: Is Castles and Crusades an official expansion module for DnD play?

To a degree, it is a version of the OGL re-written to make it more like classic D&D I believe.

And lastly: Is Savage Worlds just the name of the gamesystem? And several different gamesettings are featured in this from Sci-Fi, Steampunk, fantasy, etc?

Savage Worlds (https://www.peginc.com/) is the name of the system yes, there have been lots of setting books released for it.

Basically for $9.99 (£5.99) you get a whole roleplaying game, the system is very simple and the simplicity I feel is in fact its greatest strength.

These days when I want to run a game I just use Savage Worlds, so far I have run (using Savage Worlds):

Fantasy, Dark Matter, Serenity, Aliens, Star Wars, Horror.

I think I got carried away there, hope it helped.... :o

Hi I posted a few weeks back looking for a C&C or Savage worlds game. I have the pdf's ruleset -- although i haven't played any games with them yet.

If there is a friday night or Saturday night GMT0(UK) session going i would be keen to sit in for a session to get a feel for it.

I will check out the links posted by Sakusammakko.

Great feedback all!
As for SW settings: I am usually interested in the darker setting of things, like underworld, vampires, cyberpunk besides some good high fantasy.

London UK your location says..

Where abouts?
I'm in NE Surrey (SW London)

might be able to join us for a face-to-face one day... or failing that our Tuesday night FG campaign (when I'm running one again, playing rippers as a PC right now).

We'll be making characters tomorrow. 3 guys signed up, possibly 4. I open the server up at noon GMT-5 and I'll be around for 2 or 3 hours. When we play, we start anywhere between noon and 1.

As always, everybody is invited. PM me for the server info.

My campaign is dark horror sci-fi with a dash of pulp. Think movies like Riddick, Alien, Pandorum and video games like Doom and Gears of War. Also RPG's like Dark Heresy and Necropolis 2350. It will take place on a huge cargo space ship. A penal ship headed to a colony. You are part of a mercenary team hired as security.

Just moved to South East London so only about 5 hours away round the M25 ;o) . I'll see if I can connect in on FG II game. I have to weave game time between chores and when my better half permits ;o).
