For those of you who might have missed GenCon I am writing an article and posting the drafts as I get them done on GamingArmy. You can check it out HERE (https://www.gamingarmy.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=111&id=3271&Itemid=0) Just keep in mind that I have not yet passed it through my editor, and none of the pictures have yet been linked but I hope the article still captures the full flavor of GenCon for you.

I've never been to GenCon, but that leaves the impression it's a bunch of fat people interspersed with some hotties, I guess. Sounds like it was an interesting weekend--I'd have liked to read more about the events, but I think the atmosphere was thoroughly described. There's a picture at my FLGS of one of the workers standing with a booth babe. He's got this stupid smile on his face, and she looks like she's concentrating on a Happy Thought™.
Will there be pictures added later?

The dwelling on all the fat is because this years GenCon was without a doubt the largest amount of fat I have ever seen at a GenCon. However I have not gotten a chance to get to the epiphany of the article, the realization of what gencon is all about... You see on the surface GenCon is all about gaming, but once one is properly inebriated one begins to realize GenCon isnt about gaming, the gaming is just an excuse. Gencon is about fitting in, cause at gencon it doesnt matter if you are 450 lbs of blubbering man, a 96 lbs of blinding beautiful goddess, or a even a green skinned orc in a loincloth. Everyone at gencon has something in common, and the realization I came to was gaming was not what they all had in common. It was Gencon itself. Its all about unity brother, its about accepting your fellow man for who he is, and its about accepting yourself for who you are.
Hello everyone, My name is Michael, and I am 225 lbs of blubbering gamer.
and Yes there are already pictures of a lot of it posted, they are just in the gencon group over on gamingarmy, but the pictures will be in the final article.

Ha Ha, I just read the entire article and couldn't stop laughing - an unusual and unexpected narrative but very enjoyable. Great stuff.
As a Brit, I am naturally astounded by the epic proportions of food that can be purchased and consumed in the US. Most recently I have been enjoying watching 'Man vs. Food', an American food reality television series thats being aired over here in Blighty at the moment.
The show follows the host, Adam Richman, as he journey's across the US on the prowl for Americas greatest pig out spots. My oh my, I have never seen anything like it, foot long hot dogs, 6lb burgers, burritos of epic proportion, 72oz steaks and my favourite the 11lb carnivore Pizza challenge! Geez, this guy can EAT!

the Four Horsemen challenge. Naga Peppers, Serengi Peppers, Jalapeños and Habaneros...
... funny fact? I once tried the Naga Peppers or bhut jolokia as they are also called. I am a fairly spice-tolerant person having lived on Thai-food for long periods of time cooked in the traditional Thai manner by my cousin.
The bhut jolokia beggared all description.
... it still does. It took me over 20 minutes to get out of foetal position, almost as bad as getting jalapeños in the eye. (But that is another story.) The man in this video is a freaking CON monster.;)

I should have the rest of the article finished by tonight and posted in its raw form. Our editor is riding me about getting it finished so she can get it edited and ready for publication. As for the overeating in America I think there is a Competitive Eating thing in a few weeks not far from where I live, I might have to go cover that as well. :)

Hmmm. Interesting, but logical, train of thought. I was talking to my only local friend in the city as we went to the game shop about why I don't play more miniatures wargames at the shop. I said it was because while I could have an enjoyable gaming conversation with most of the store regulars, I didn't necessarily enjoy their company. :)
What I have in common with the people at the store isn't so much the gaming, but our commitment to it. (Or in the case of your trip, it's not that they all have gaming in common, it's that they are so into gaming they are at a convention dedicated to it.) You should have that summary in your article--I think it gives a focal point to the thought process you had.

Be careful, that's how my girl sucked me in; first it's Man vs Food, next she gets you to watch Ice Road Truckers, and before you know it you're watching Real Housewives of New Jersey and dabbing the drool from your mouth.

Well the full version of the rough cut is now on our forums, and the editor is already bitching at me about over use of some words, continuity, grammar, and spelling. But if you can get through all those issues its there. I don't know when the final edited and polished version will be out, but should be sometime soonish.
